WWE No Way Out PPV Reax #3: "Tonight was the first time in nine years I have stood up and..." Feb 17, 2008 - 11:59:29 PM
Joe Daoud (10.0): No Way Out was absolutely spectacular. This event did not have one bad match and the lowest was average (Punk vs. Guerrero) and phenomenal (Elimination Chamber Match for Raw). If you just sat there, forgot about the spoilers and the judgment and critiques and watched it, you would be swept away. This event showed me how to relax. I was counting along with the ref during the matches. I was cheering for Hardy even though I knew it was a waste of my breath. I gasped when Batista hit the Batista Bomb on Taker. I went nuts for Orton to tap to the STFU. This event is what wrestling needs to be. If others cannot see that this was an amazing event then they are being too critical. When you start rating, you lose your ability to go with the journey of the match. This was a 10 on the scale for me. WWE is now getting the hang of how to put on a PPV. Cannot wait till WM. WWE has big shoes to fill.
Eric Gall of Bridgeport, Conn. (4.0): Best Match:Flair-Kennedy. Worst Match: Triple H. Another predictable showing by the WWE; I'm relieved I didn't pay for this, but little else. The Hooters that I was at tonight was packed; I guess showing that the road toward WrestleMania really picks up the casual interest. I wish I could say I was as excited, but I haven't been about the product for a while, and tonight's show did nothing to win back my smile. The Smackdown Chamber match was the Batista and Taker show, predictably, and "the Undertaker is going to WrestleMania!" Does that mean the other five guys aren't going? I suppose the Mayweather involvement is the required mainstream tie-in to this year's WM, but I just don't care. If they wanted the punches to look real, they did their job. Under any other circumstances, I would say that Mayweather went into business for himself, but maybe Vince wanted shoot punches so this clip could be replayed endlessly on boxing/sports shows. Of course Conan the Son-in-Law won the Raw Chamber match, confirming the total mishandling of the Jeff Hardy title push. Positives? Flair still won, but seeing how the booking philosophy goes around here, he'll probably be jobbed out in two minutes to Hornswoggle in the curtain jerker at WM. Sorry I can't be more enthusiastic. Maybe next time.
Phil Karlson of Nashville, Tenn. (9.5): Best Match: The Show angle (you kiddin' me?!)) with props to both Chamber matches. Worst Match: None. Tonight was the first time in nine years I have stood up and gotten excited over something in the squared circle. The thing that surprises me is that it was The Big Show. I'm looking forward to seeing if there's going to be a payoff of this angle, but it is the best thing I've seen WWE do in a long time. That angle, along with a sensable finish to Cena-Orton and two good Elimination Chamber matches made this a great show. I thought Flair and Kennedy gave a great effort in the ring. I wanted 'Naitch to lose tonight so he could find a way to get on the Mania card and get a proper sendoff with a winning match. As a lifelong Flair fan going to Orlando for the sole purpose of seeing his last match, I want to see him go out on a great note in Orlando instead of being sad about him losing.
