TNA Impact Reax #1: "I'm done watching this crap. This show is downright insulting to all wrestling fans." Feb 28, 2008 - 11:19:43 PM
Shane McKinley of Danville, Calif. (6.0): Best Match: Hilliary Clinton Joke (I don't know why). Worst Match: Drinking Championship Ladder Match. Another edition of the soap opera called Tommorow Never Answers, or TNA for short. Suddenly Curryman and Shark Boy are so over they've got new video packages and intelligence-insulting catchphrases. Kick some bass? Shell yeah? Woohoo we're riding that gravy train to the top! I'm wondering if Steiner-Petey and Booker-Roode will help everyone out in their careers. I'm not seeing the progression of talent at all. Not a good night for Young, as he is portrayed as a coward and a loser. Good idea for video package for VKM. The Booker-Roode (redux) was a effective way of re-igniting the feud. Wrestlers should always be more important than the match. If I don't care about the wreslters or the feud, why should I care about the Elevation X match? The reason to have James Storm afraid of heights and to have Jackie win the match for him is just so stupid and counterproductive. It's simple, really. Put Storm into a ladder match against a jobber and have him squash him. Have Storm cut a generic heel promo on Rhino, attack him from behind, whatever. It's sound to have Storm promoting the Elevation X match, but neither himself, Rhino, or the feud were promoted as a big deal. Segments like this don't help, they hurt. Crowd is just insanely hot for Kong. The women's division is one of the strongest points of TNA, because it works well. Angle is now clearly the heel, instead of being a tweener. Styles is being put into a more effective role (please no more costumes). I'm wondering if we can just get a simple good match between two wrestlers without interference or ref incompetence. Wrestling fans should create a chant for when a wrestler has a man pinned but the ref just can't be bothered to look in the ring. Big ups for the fans counting the three count (and beyond). Bad news when you've got one show left before a seemingly unimportant PPV.
Jay Gilkay, Milwaukee Wisc. (2.5): I'm done watching this crap. This show is downright insulting to all wrestling fans. Every week TNA puts a lame title on the show that basically gives away what is gonna happen in the main event. Then, the booking is so lazy that every in-ring promo or match gets someone running in on it. The pacing of the show is headache inducing to say the least. When Mike Tenay stated that the Steiner-Williams tag match was coming up "later tonight," it happened literally one minute later. Annoying characters like Rellik, Black Reign, and Eric Young get way too much air time while guys like Shelley and Sabin sit in the locker room. The heavy-handed voice over highlite packages are ridiculous. Thanks for showing us all the fizzled out or scrapped angles that VKM have been involved in these last few years. I can't wait for next week's "Rough Cut" footage so we can add that to the list. Has anybody else noticed that sometimes words like "ass" get beeped out and other times they are not censored? Is that considered being edgy or is it just laziness in editing? Well, so much for the counter product to WWE programming. Goodbye TNA. ESPN Classic just called. Those midnight showings of old AWA sound real good right about now.
