TNA Impact Reax #2: "Time to take a Tylenol and hope gullibly that things will be better." Feb 29, 2008 - 5:11:40 AM
Jason Mills of La Crosse, Wisc. (3.0): Best Match: Awesome Kong vs. Angelina Love. Worst Match: The Announcing. It's amazing to me that TNA has it all and can still manage to flush their show down the toilet. Awesome Kong is indeed awesome; a perfect heel and I enjoy Gail Kim as her opponent. What's not good is that I care more about the women's title than the TNA main belt. Curyman and Sharkboy - good humor and I can live with 'em. But otherwise, where is TNA? Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelly, Kaz, and even Tomko who had really begun to shine have all seemingly fallen by the wayside in favor of really crappy stories and former WWE talent (yeah, I know Tomko's former WWE, but still). The false finishes, run-ins, gimmicks, and the like all had me just shaking my head and changing the channel over to "Beach Patrol" and "Cops" because they were less predictable. TNA has everything it needs to make a really great wrestling show; they just have to figure out how to make it work. And they need to do it soon.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (5.0): Best: Young-Kaz promo; Moore-Storm promo; Kong-Kim-ODB postmatch Worst: Tenay and West How many Tylenol did I need to get through this one? Not nearly as many I was expecting, but still plenty of them. A.J.'s turning face and gaining some brains in the process. Yahoo! On the flipside, Tomko's once mighty turn is now leaving him nondescript. Thanks, TNA, for bloeing that one; I knew you wouldn't do Tomko right after backpedaling on him. I'm assuming that because of tonight's win against Dutt/Lethal that Petey Williams will be officially a Freak (Steiner mentioned an initiation), but no followup happened. Having both of 3D fail the weigh-in keeps the matches with Curryman/Shark Boy from getting repetitive, but did Rellik and Reign have to be their next opponents? Ugh. Kaz and Young did better to verbally put over their respective positions than physically as the beatdown was a total cluster. I liked the end exchange between Moore and Storm on the ladder. It's almost face-turning, but it did help the in-match story of fear of heights. Like with Steiner-Williams, there was no followup as to why Rhino took the drinking belt. Roode-Booker do well to keep their feud hot, and Brooks being added to the mix may change the solo match to a tag match at the PPV. Once the chaos of their teammates was removed, Angle-Nash was a pretty decent match. But the "nature of the beast" extends from jerky husbands to crappy booking and both guys looked bad in the end. As for Tenay and West: I use closed-captioning on my TV due to reasonably poor hearing; I don't need their volume level! Did either them bother to mention that in effect there are two number-one contenders, as Steiner has the briefcases? Paparrazzi Productions still exists? How? That's it: another migraine from a TNA show. Time to take a Tylenol and hope gullibly that things will be better next week.
