TNA Impact Reax #1: "Last week left me dumbfounded; this week I'm much more satisfied." Mar 7, 2008 - 1:22:27 PM
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Angle vs. Cage. Worst: X Division Battle Royal. Last week left me dumbfounded; this week I'm much more satisfied. And they remembered there was a PPV coming! The X Division battle royal featured people who had never been acknowledged as being in the X Division; the X Division needs a new name more than the Knockouts Division does right now. Eric Young and Reign and Rellik were all in the match, and yet their story didn't go further. Actually, everyone seemed non-descript, save for 3D. Roxxi is about to get a reconstruct, courtesy of Angelina an Velvet. It's about as viable a way to get it since Roxxi is something of a free agent ans she's kind of spinning her wheels right now. I'll be damned: for once a first blood match was decided by blood coming from somewhere other than the head. Nice. Styles-Nash street fight really wasn't much of one, but it did tell a serviceable story about Nash's knee issues, and did sell a carryover of last week's match with Angle. Angle-Cage was a very good cage match, and the post-match was very hot and believably done. After many weeks of wondering why I keep watching (aside from analyzing it) this was one of those weeks that I didn't regret doing so.
Shane McKinley of Danville, Calif. (8.0): Best Match: Main Event. Worst Match: Division X Battle Royal. Big ups for TNA having "no interference, no DQ" in their matches. I chuckled at the Kevin Nash's Hulk Hogan bit. The Nash-Styles street fight was the lamest thing I ever saw, considering what street fights are supposed to be all about. Sensible PPV hype. Effective. Catfight was so random. And what's with cannibalism in TNA? Perhaps Team 3D is really out the door, since they have zero credibility right now and being booked as a comedy act. It was very much boring filler during the Division X Battle Royal. Throwing in MMG, LAX, and Rock & Roll Infection at the last minute for the PPV showed that these teams are not important, even though MMG is on the PPV poster. But whatever. Very intense Tomko vs. Joe. The finish made the First Blood match look weak, but I'm grateful for no interferrence and no DQs. I love James Mitchell promos. The clean win by Rhino, then James Storm attacking him from behind was much better executed than last week's nonsense. The Knockouts have the most sensible storyline leading up to PPV. Excellent main event match. Pushed the feud between the two teams (although the illusion was broken somewhat with a huge cage door that a car could drive through). Very effective and entertaining TV. Shows like these will keep fans, not drive them away.
Matt Guerra of Bayonne, N.J. (8.0): The best match of the night was the main event with Christian and Angle. The worst match of the night was the Destination X Battle Royal. This show was a 7.0 for me with some solid action hyping up the PPV, but it jumped a point with that awesome main event. Hopefully Destination X can live up to some of that hype.
