Brent Hughes of Colorado Springs, Col. (8.0): Best Match Undertaker vs Edge, Worst Match Kane vs Chavo. Some of the matches didn't seem WrestleMania-worthy and were dissappointing such as JBL vs Finlay, Batista vs Umaga, and Kane vs Chavo. I was surprised C.M. Punk won the Money in the Bank ladder match, which I was thought was an exciting and entertaining match. I was excited to see Matt Hardy cost MVP the match. Flair vs. HBK was good as expected, but I was dissappointed that there wasn't a speech or some wrestlers who came out to show their respect. I was even more surprised that Triple H didn't win the the triple threat match for the WWE Title. It seem like fans wanted him to win. The woman's match was expected. I think a title match would have been better, such as Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James. Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather was better then expected, probably due to low expecations. By far the best match was Undertaker vs Edge - great match, drama, wrestling, etc. Towards the end I thought there might be a chance Undertaker would lose. WWE definitely made good use out of the event being outdoors with the pryo's and fireworks. WrestleMania is the only pay-per-view I order ever year. One reason is I think too much time is spent on the recaps and video packages, where most fans ordering the event are well aware of everything that has happened. That time could be added to another match.
Jeff Leadbeater of Orlando, Fla. - Torch VIP Member (7.5): Best Match: Flair vs. Michaels. Worst Match: Chavo vs. Kane. Not a bad WrestleMania. As a whole it's probably not the best, definitely not the worst. Belfast Brawl wasn't terrible, but it didn't seem hardcore enough for a hardcore match. MITB was an incredible show, and tossing in Matt Hardy from out of nowhere to thwart MVP was a nice touch. Batista vs. Umaga was kind've blah and predictible. Kane vs. Chavo destroyed the credibility of the ECW Title. BunnyMania was surprisingly good. Certainly not five-star, but the ladies have come so far in the past year. Cena, Orton, and Triple H seemed to go too fast, and the swerve at the end seemed out-of-place but oddly fitting. Mayweather and Big Show was bad, and would be the worst if not for the ECW Title stinker. They paid $20M for that?! Edge vs. Undertaker was mildly predictible in that there was an unordinant number of near-falls and a run-in by the Edgeheads. Although I myself was hoping for an Undertaker win, him winning the title to end a WrestleMania just seems a bit cliché. The absolute match of the night was Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels. The execution was perfect from start to finish. For my money, it was the greatest match of all time, and saved an otherwise ho-hum WrestleMania. The "Old Yeller" references were suddenly fitting: Shawn Michaels became Travis, tearfully but rightfully putting an end to Old Yeller. The end of Ric Flair's career could not have played out better. I have no better words for it.
J.K. (9.0): Best match: Money in the Bank Ladder Match / Retirement Match (tie). Worst Match: Playboy bunny lumberjack match (by default). Wow... that's all I can say. This was the first WrestleMania I have ordered since the WM 20 fiasco. From top to bottom, a terrific package. From the opener to the World Title match, I enjoyed every match. The Money in the Bank match made me a fan of Shelton Benjamin and John Morrison, who I had never really paid much attention to. I can totally accept Kane as the ECW Champion and the fans reacted very favorably to him winning the title. Kudos to Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair for an amazing match. Damn, I was even in tears myself as Ric walked back up the aisle for the last time. The Mayweather-Big Show match far exceeded anything I had expected. I was actually entertained and found that the ending "made sense." Cena, Hunter, and Orton put on a great match; I love matches where the guy who shouldn't win, does. Besides, I have had my fill of Cena and Hunter being champ. World Title match - Edge is the man in my opinion, but the Undertaker pulled his weight just fine and the two of them - with their contant reversals and near falls - put on a hell of a match. They work very well against each other. The only match that was "weak" was the women's match, but even that wasn't too bad (outside of the lighting going out). Besides, any match that allows the participation of Santino Marella can't be all bad! All in all, money well spent and I am actually looking forward to watching Raw tomorrow night.
