Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (6.0): Best: MCMG vs. Rhino/Cage. Worst: Matt Morgan. Tonight's episode was a case of take or leave it, and for the most part, I'd leave it. Matt Morgan has some kind of issues. Have no clue who or why, and no follow-up was even tried to find out more. Booker fessed to being a hothead for his thoughts last week and made nice with Sting; I can buy that. I could also buy the tension between Roode and Storm as by creation heels are more prone to be driven by ego. Most of the promos felt like rehashes, and nothing in any of the matches screamed "tell my friends about it." In true TNA fashion, there are gimmick matches for Sacrifice, and I'm not feeling it that either will come off well. The Deuces Wild tag match seems very confusing in that the question arises as to when the the tourney become the mulligan stew and mix up the teams. The main event was fine until the cluster booking of a finish. And case number three will go down to waste with the other two. I considered tonight's episode of TNA to be white noise. If I had it playing in the background and didn't really pay attention to it, I wouldn't have missed much.
Shane McKinley of Danville, Calif. (9.0) Best Match: Main Event, Cornette. Worst Match: Opening Matt Morgan Segment. Cornette! Cornette! Cornette! Keep this up please. He restored my confidence in Impact. Anybody who can explain the concept of "Deuces Wild" and "Knockout Makeover Ladder Match" deserves a lot of credit. Plus with his plans for a "barabic match" (Hell in the cell? Elimination Chamber? Chicken wire match?) is intriguing. This "Deuces Wild" is sort of like a tag team King of the Ring. That "Makeover Ladder Match" also looks intriguing and fun as well. I feel TNA works best when it puts away silly nonsense and the three minute matches and offers us shows like this. I don't watch Impact for Super Eric or the "wacky zaniess i.e. stupidity," I watch Impact because of matches like Motor City Machine Guns vs. Rhino & Cage. There were great tag team matches throughout the night. The main event was huge. Both men gave a great effort. It was definite quality and I was glad I watched it. Great show all around, from the matches and good and sensible hype for main event. The problem comes next week, because usually after a great Impact the next one will be horrible. Hopefully it won't be "stupdity and short matches." The question will be brought up that perhaps Joe vs. Angle should have been on PPV, but I don't buy that. Shows before a PPV have to be great at times. They can't all be fodder before a PPV, because if the televised shows usually stink, why would people buy the PPV? And forget about PPVs, fans want to see quality.
David Z. of St. Louis, Mo. (8.0): Best match: Angle vs. Joe. Worst Match: There wasn't one. What a crazy Impact. After a solid and logical build to Lockdown that I understood easily, and a great Lockdown PPV, TNA is back to its insane gimmick bouts and non-sensical overbooking. Any lifelong fan knows when a booker is just tired, and they just throw a bunch of PPV matches together because it's their job, well, this is TNA right now. First of all, I don't know what Deuce Wild means. I guess the tournament could be exciting to see unfold, but the reason Cornette is booking it still makes no sence from last Thursday. This is a quick re-shuffling of the tag division, and mabye it'll be good. I'm not sure why Sting and Booker aren't getting along. I wasn't sure why Matt Morgan randomly attacking Kip James started this show? 3D aren't getting along, then they are. Cage/Rhino vs. Machine Guns was a great match, and I would not mind seein Cage & Rhino as tag champs. Motor City needs an overhaul or a heel turn right now. They proved themselves with 3D a few months ago, but have gone no-where since then. Sting/Booker vs. Roode/Storm was a good match, too. The women's stuff tonight was so Vince Russo. When Russo doesn't know what to do with guys or girls, he always just throws them all together and says "argue, then we'll build a match because you guys don't like each other." This was Russo stupidity all the way. Battleroyal Ladder Shaved Bald Match? Is that how they're gonna promote it? Then you got Cornette treating them like 18 year old girls. No girl here looked like a star when Cornette just destroyed them all as pieces of crap. Joe and Angle had a good bout, and the hype for it was decent. Scott Steiner really didn't need to help Joe win here, if TNA wants to build Joe as a legit World Champ. The three-way at the PPV should be good, but Scott Steiner to me is too bland after all these years. One very good thing I noticed is a potential A.J. Styles vs. Kurt Angle feud. If booked logically without tons of Karen Angle interference and DQs, this could be very cool.
I refuse to speak ill of the lovely former Ariel, but "cucaracha," Salinas? Really?
