WWE Raw Reax #5: "I have always liked Regal as a heel, and it's nice to see WWE keeping him that way." Apr 29, 2008 - 2:39:15 PM
Jeremy Quist of Lynchburg, Va. (1.0): Best Match: Triple H vs. Orton minus the finish. Worst Match: Take your pick. There were way too many jabronis on this show. Back in The Rock era, he called some stooge staffer a jabroni, and the King saw him and said "oh, he is a jabroni." That summed up most of the show. They have got get more out of HBK than one line on a two hour live program. He is too good. Jericho's segment was one dimensional and overall boring. The PWTorch staff is right, they can't sell Judgement Day with the same main event we've seen four times in the last two months. Cena must make Raw. Vince's movies are going to hurt him in more ways than at the box office. Santino is very funny, but he needs to be taken more seriously. They have him jobbng to Cody Rhodes. They made Carlito look much stronger. I believe this is due to the lack of definition in Santino's body. Looks are not everything. He can perform. Rhodes is small time. C.M. Punk has more legit charisma. Carlito was pushed heavily and proved he does not have the "it" factor. Santino has a shot to be a legit mid-carder who fans pay money to see. Triple H is the right decision for the belt right now, but he needs a new feud. Fans would love to see HBK get another title run. He has been their best performer recently. Their major problem no one wants to address. Jeff Hardy doing drogs again killed them. He had a major following. It was obvious. The finish to this show tells me that Vince is getting desparate. He might want to think about giving up the brands and having all performers on both major shows.
A.A. Norman of Tulsa. Okla. (7.0): Best Match: Kennedy vs. Regal mic-off. Worst Mach Six-on-Six. Diva match. Kudos to WWE for not overplaying bad segments like a coronation ceremony after last week's candidate match. So long as Michaels gets a "best acting" award, here are few more: Best breakout performance to Trevor Murdoch for actually doing something other than being Lance Cade's sidekick. Here I thought Cade was going to get the push and Murdoch was going to get pushed out, and holy cow, he can sing (and anyone out there who says they weren't singing along with him is probably lying). Here's hoping that Murdoch gets in better ring shape, then becomes an Austin-like character. Cade, I can take or leave, but how can you give up on someone like Trevor with out-of-ring talent like that? I was happily surprised. Best mic time goes to Ken Kennedy for saving us from an atrocious coronation ceremony and setting up a surprise twist at the end of the show. We all knew that there wouldn't be a clean finish (let alone title switch) on a free show, so why have it end like any other show would - with a chair shot, title belt shot, or countout? I certainly hope they don't make a habit of this, but it was a fun surprise. Worst backstage interview goes to Orton, who simply stared down his interviewer and said one word that has become infamous in really bad promos: "No!" Also, why have a Six-on-six Diva match when only about eight or nine have any impact on the match? Oh, right - because we're not watching Divas for wrestling.
Kevin Jones of San Diego, Calif. - 24 yrs old, Independent Contractor (7.5): Best: Mr. Kennedy Return Worst: The Piper Encounter. Okay, so I thought the show was pretty decent tonight. It certainly held my interest more than in the past few weeks. First the good. Nice start with the Triple H victory speech. Having yet to read anything about Backlash, it was nice to see the belt back on his shoulder. And the interruption by RKO, while expected, still brought a nice edge to the rivalry. Though I do feel like I'm reliving events from four years ago. Anyway, on to the Regal KOTR Coronation. I have always liked Regal as a heel, and it's nice to see WWE keeping him that way, and allowing the KOTR victory to go to his head. I almost expected Mr. McMahon to come out after Regal said he was now the most influencial force in the WWE. But perhaps my favorite part of this segment was the return of the incomparable Mr. Kennedy. I was surprised to see that he was not a part of KOTR, but now I understand why. I have been a fan of Kennedy since his debut and I am intrigued to see where this fued will go. It's time for Kennedy to make a nice long face run. By the way, who knew Trevor Murdoch had such a great voice? Now for the bad. Was it just me, or was that Santino-Piper encounter just totally awkward. This is more a critisism of the writers, not the individuals involved. It was just a waste of two minutes of air time. The JBL squash match was just dumb. We already know how dominant he can be. Beating up on one of the Highlanders proves nothing. I think a confrontation backstage with John Cena would have been more useful to the overall rekindling of this memorable feud. The Diva match, like the ending of the main event, was predictable. Now, I'm not saying I knew that the show was going to fade to black before the end of the match. What I'm saying is that I knew the writers were not going to give us a clean win in an Orton-Triple H rematch with the title on the line on free TV. Speaking of the fade out, I actually liked it because it made the new power-hungry side of Regal more believable. However, echoing another reviewer, I hope they don't make a habit of it.
