WWE One Night Stand PPV Reax #1: "This was the first time I was shocked by an outcome in a wrestling event in a long time." Jun 1, 2008 - 11:45:55 PM
Anthony O'Hagan of The Bronx (9.0): Best Match: TLC. Worst Match: First Blood Match. Wow, what a main event! This was the first time I was shocked by an outcome in a wrestling event in a long time. Edge and Undertaker put on a show. The Undertaker may be my favorite wrestler of all time, but I'm pleased Edge will be champion. I actually hope the Undertaker doesn't return because this was a good "into the sunset" ending for him. This was the perfect match to end his career and he went out on a high note. R.I.P to the career of the Undertaker.
John Pagano of Libertyville, Ill. (7.0): Best Match: Taker-Edge. Worst Match: JBL-Cena. I rarely buy non-WrestleMania pay-per-views, but the family was out of town, so what the heck? Kevin Dunn gets an "F" tonight, the wrestlers get an A-. OVER-PRODUCED. Dunn is so overrated as a producer/director, which typifies the entire WWE non-wrestler payroll - no accountability. How many heel wrestler "calls" were picked up by the main mic. Jeff Hardy can't work a fire extinguisher. JBL, Edge, and the ref during Shawn-Batista giving cues; and Dunn picks them up and broadcasts them... awful. Same old, same old, but I really think production is on the decline, and the fish rots at the head. Bring back true kayfabe (eye rakes on the ropes, Edge actually climbing the ladder instead of propping a second table for no reason after it fell, C.M. Punk never winning a match as Money in the Bank guy). That said, I actually enjoyed the night and I'm less harsh on the reviews than Wade. The women's match (especially the nice execution of the finish) and the Singapore (Sang-a-more, said my fellow alumnus Adamle on ECW last week) Cane match were better than given credit. The Adamle restroom scene shows me how clueless Mike is at 58 freakin' years old, which saddens me further as a Northwestern graduate (obviously, he did not attend on an academic scholarship, but as a running back). JBL-Cena... why did Cena have to win? I am the lone 33-year old male who like his act, but every excuse was there for him to lose, so why have JBL tap after one second of chain STFU? Personally, I can't figure out why a fan hasn't made a sign: "If I can't see you, why are you on PPV?" Seems so obvious. The main event was done well. Now, make the board of directors mean something, reinstate Undertaker due to Vickie being a nut job, ensure Vince is a babyface (but, since he's stuck in 1998 listening to that Idiot Dunn, that won't happen), and institute a GM who actually cares about meeting the board's objectives instead of having excuses that D-list writers can use as cop-out excuses (rather than maximize share-holder value). Are you hearing me, Kevin? Time to start showing up for work since WWE is no longer a "growth stock," you idiot. Global markets will catch on in a few years... just like outsourcing has.
