WWE ECW Reax #1: "Philadelphia, I know ECW probably has disappointed you a lot this past year, but please give them a chance." Jul 16, 2008 - 5:58:56 PM
A.A. Norman of Tulsa, Okla. (9.0) Best Match: Hardys vs. Miz & Morrison. Worst Thought: The announcement of this version of ECW returning to Philadelphia. This was a very good show, which means that Philly may not arrange to have booing throughout the entire hour-long show. However, there is still a very good possibility if Tommy Dreamer isn't champion, they don't have a solid main event that week, and if Mike Adamle is still the announcer. In any event, I kind of cringed at that advertisement in picturing what that live show would be like. But, let's not take away from a very solid ECW showing. I tuned in solely for the main event that was announced Monday. If they have a rematch next week that builds to a no. 1 contender match for the ECW between Matt and one of the tag team champs, that might be fun. However, if they do nothing after such a great match, what a huge disappointment. Bourne continues to impress, but yes, a lame promo video. I used to love how Mark Henry would demonstrate his strength after winning his Strongest Man title - remember when he broke the chain off the cage vs. Batista when the lock wouldn't open? That was a great way to start the show and a great show overall. Philadelphia, I know ECW probably has disappointed you a lot this past year, but please give them a chance to make things right when it returns home.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (6.0): Best: Miz/Morrison vs. Hardys. Worst: Knox vs. Moore. Trying hard to not be like Raw and it fared worse doing so. Tony Atlas explained himself in terms of his actions last week, but he still doesn't belong here, though for this week it worked that he was there to M.C. the frying pan demonstration. Then Teddy Long perplexed me. After being a face GM for so long, I actually got the vibe that Teddy went, or is going to turn, heel for not tolerating face Tommy Dreamer's behavior but being seeming nonexistent when Mark Henry attacked Colin Delaney. I'll give Long credit for reminding Dreamer that this wasn't Raw. Unlike Vladimir Kozlov's squash matches, which actually feed into the development of his character, Mike Knox's squashes aren't doing much for him except suck the life out of the crowd. The quick matches aren't helping Evan Bourne a whole lot either, even with the showoff moves (the SSP and the sweet standing tuck moonsault). Winning against Chavo Guerrero felt too easy, and Bam Neely has been nothing but a showpiece since his arrival. A nice Chavo-Evan match could be cool to watch, though. Hardys-Miz/Morrison was the only match allowed to be any good, and it was very good. Too bad WWE blew a freebie for what could have been a very good PPV match.
