TNA Impact Reax #1: "Scott Steiner squeezed into that suit was worth the price of admission alone."

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.5): Best: opening segment and Foley-Sting-Styles promo. Worst: Kong/Saeed vs. Taylor/Khan. For once I'm not worried about a TNA PPV. The card on paper looks pretty good, although I might question the order of matches afterwards. The content of the program stayed fairly on point, and only a few places left me wondering things. Remind me again: what "World's Championship" did Steiner have? West and Tenay tried too hard to make Steiner an equal to the rest of The Main Event Mafia. When is Booker ever going to get rid of that accent he just can't keep up with? Who's supposed to be the heel in the Rhino-Bashir feud? They both come across as heels in this. I'm guessing it's subliminal support for the Main Event Mafia, but why is Jacqueline dressed up, when she is partnered more with Storm than Roode? What is the deal with Rhaka Khan, period? And is something wrong with Steiner's right arm? It looked mangled and dislocated. And Sting continues to talk the talk of a heel but won't walk the walk. His behavior in the MEM celebration shows how disjointed his talk and walk are. Mostly the heels won tonight, which suggest a face night on the PPV, save for Beer Money with Morgan/Abyss on the horizon. If the Guns wins, 3D will be the reason, but I'd rather see Beer Money keep the belts for a bit longer.

Sam Saunders of Chicago, Ill. (7.0): Best match: MCMG/Cage vs. Beer Money/Booker. Worst match: Wilde/Khan vs. Saeed/Kong. Seeing Scott Steiner squeezed into that suit at the beginning of tonight's broadcast was worth the price of admission alone. The subsequent promo was classic Steiner - blurring the lines between work and shoot as usual, unintentionally hilarious at times, and just generally all over the place. The look on Nash and Angle's faces while Steiner spouted off was absolutely priceless. Sting once again looked rather uncomfortable and I'm becoming more convinced by the week that this is as much genuine discomfort on his part as it is part of the storyline, but of course I could be wrong. Good opening though. The six-man tag bout pitting the Motor City Machine Guns and Christian Cage against Beer Money and Booker T was pretty good, despite the predictable ending. I really think TNA needs to ease up on the four-way tag matches though. A.J.'s confrontation with Sting played out pretty well, with The Stinger doing most of the heavy lifting, so to speak. Mike Tenay's interview with Sheik Abdul Bashir actually had some depth to it - until the contrived freak-out at the end. Scott Steiner made his return to in-ring action against Samoa Joe in the main event and it was about what I expected. Joe carried much of the match and landed an awesome suicide dive on Kevin Nash at ringside before falling victim to Steiner's brass knuckles. All in all, tonight's Impact featured some semi-crummy backstage vignettes, but that was matched by some fairly decent in-ring action. More or less, your typical Impact leading into Sunday's Turning Point PPV.
