WWE Raw Reax #3: "I expected more out of the Beth vs. Mickie match."

A.A. Norman of Tulsa, Okla. (7.0): Best: "Concluding unfinished business." Worst: Jobber matches. When they announced the release of Kenny Dykstra and Elijah Burke, I was fearful that this meant that they really weren't ever going to promote new faces, nor wrap up feuds among the older stars for the next several years, much like the inevitable "one night only" DX reunions that will happen more than one night within the next month. However, since they gave some time to the "Priceless" duo of Manu and Rhodes, there is hope, even if there appears to be little hope of Manu getting to utter some useful words or Rhodes learning how to enunciate his promos. Alas, Batista threw a "boo" bomb to the crowd by crushing his third/second generational adversaries and any hope that the WWE is serious about promoting new talent. And that, to the nation that elected Barack Obama last Tuesday, is what we call "The Audacity of Hope," for change doesn't happen on Raw. Funny how the declining ratings are not changing, either. Cue John Cena winning the main event at Survivor Series and holding the title until he gets injured again.

Art "Bucky" Blarr of Buffalo, N.Y. (8.0): Best Match: Michaels vs. Jericho. Worst Match: Knox vs. Brown. Another good show where I was only fast-forwarding through the commercial breaks. This proved how much the McMahon name means to WWE as Stephanie's authority impact was really felt. Teddy Long, Vicki Guerrero, and Mike Adamle never connected as sternly as a McMahon on camera with the audience and the wrestlers. I didn't like that Santino lost so quickly, but what I did like was everything leading up to the victory - from Santino's promo to the ring introductions by Lillian. It really felt like the title meant something as both wrestlers entered the ring to their respective themes, both wrestlers stood in their corners, the belt was held up by the ref, and then came the introductions. The Kane vs. Rey match was great; although I was sure Rey damaged his knee on the finish. I expected a little more out of the Beth vs. Mickie match, especially after the promo that led up to the match. I really enjoyed the Michaels vs. Jericho match, especially how it set up the JBL vs. HBK feud. It also leaves Jericho to feud with Cena, Batista, and Orton, who are all hungry contenders.

Deniz Devries, PC Technician (5.0): Best: Regal getting a title. Worst: the crowd. This Raw should have come off all right - Adamle was gone and we seemed to have a "fresh start." Then, Steph got into the mix and rehashed every feud we'd seen a million times. It was expected Santino would lost to Regal, but it was cool. Although it was so quick, the crowd probably asked themselves "that was a title match?" I'm hoping this was the end of Kane-Rey. Yes, I get it that Kane can throw him around like a baby. I'm very happy they are selling DiBiase's "concussion." It should be interesting down the road. I was also cheering Randy Orton remotely when he was against Batista. Batista has won/lost the championship so many times in two years that he is not a big deal anymore. Jericho and Michaels was the match of the night, but the crowd was so dead except for a few spots that they'd done before. I'm hoping the next time WWE comes to England, they have a better appreciation of the product. Maybe they were simply bored. Honestly, since there were so many "feuds" put to an end this week, WWE better come up with something going forward to next week.
