ECW on Sci-Fi Reax #1: "Henry is lying in wait while Hardy goes through the paper-thin roster..."

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Hardy vs. Finlay. Worst: the commercial interruptions during Hardy-Finlay. Much like Raw, ECW suffered from being out of sync in the ring. But with only a few matches and one promo to work with (not counting the umpteenth Cena video), other things came into play to elevate the score. Striker, of course, was his usual great self, and Todd did fine. The crowd was definitely trying to help the show along. While I couldn't make out the chant, the audience clearly didn't like Swagger, who seems to be backsliding some in-ring. And what was the deal with Swagger no-selling JTG's drop-kicks? Either he lost track of where he was in terms of how the match was laid out, or was on better track than I thought. Not sure what to make of Henry's sorta-promo. I'm guessing he's lying in wait while Hardy goes through the paper-thin roster before being plugged back in. Finlay-Hardy was pretty clunky, but everything in-ring had suffered, so can't hold them responsible. There were just too many commercials for this match. One good thing was Finlay's extremely minimal use of Hornswoggle as distraction, and no use whatsoever of the shillelagh. The other was the crowd with their dueling chants and willing this match on. Matt gets foreigner heat but nothing else, and the sportsmanship afterwards put things back on even keel, so all was good there. I just wish I didn't have this limbo feeling right now.

Art 'Bucky" Blarr of Buffalo, N.Y. (5.0): Best Match: Cryme Tyme & Dreamer vs. Miz & Morrison & Swagger. Worst Match: Henry vs. Biney. Overall, ECW had an okay show from the U.K. that I felt was brought down by a 20-minute match with two commercial breaks featuring Finley vs. heavyweight champ Matt Hardy. I was never a big fan of Cryme Tyme but have noticed a huge improvement since they began feuding with Miz & Morrison. I always love it when Matt Striker references wrestlers from the past and it was great hearing him mention Ernie Ladd, but comparing Shad to the Big Cat? I saw Ladd wrestle in his prime in the early '70s and he was a self-proclaimed King of Wrestling with a cool cat-like strut who always used a taped thumb or foreign object to win matches. I felt when Todd Grisham questioned Mark Henry in the ring after his squash match win, Henry should have struck him down and splashed him instead of breathing heavy and walking away. The luck of the Irish was not with Finley in his heavyweight match, but then again, it must've been because he is not a contender and he was lucky to get a title shot. I would've rather seen a quick match with Ricky Ortiz or even a diva match and cut the main event in half.
