Art "Bucky" Blarr of Buffalo, N.Y. (7.0): Best Match: Miz & Morrison vs. Kingston & Mysterio Worst Match: Regal vs. Punk. A much better Raw than last week's edition, starting with a strong opening segment through an excellent main event match. I'm not really crazy about the JBL/Michaels angle but the whole finish to the Main Event was great. Miz & Morrison vs. Kingston & Mysterio had everything a wrestling match needs: entertainment and excitement. Glamarella vs. Melina & Goldust was a fun match but could have used some pre-match mic work by Santino. The Legacy match was predictable but it was a pretty good match which is more than I could say for the highly hyped Intercontinental match which was disappointing. I don't know why but I always enjoy any match with Jillian Hall as her character is hilarious. My choice for the MVP of the show would be Jericho, as I felt his mic work and wrestling skills outshined everyone else in the whole opening segment and main event.
Alex Roberts in the U.K. (5.0): Best Match: Main Event. Worst Match: The IC Title match. The disaster that was the Intercontinental Title match stands out as the obvious low point of the night; I can't even begin to understand what the thinking was behind that mess. They spent two months building up the IC Title and this match with the conclusion of the IC Tournament, and the result was a four-minute nothing match that ended in a DQ? Unforgivable. The WWE had the chance to make us care about the IC Title once more and they well and truly dropped the ball here. I'm tempted to say the same for the Kane/Kelly angle this week as well. I can't help but think Kane letting Kelly decide the fate of Orton would have been a more interesting and fitting advancement to this angle. Speaking of Orton, his Legacy angle is all over the place right now. I hope that WWE knows where they're going with this and aren't just making it up as they go because otherwise this is an unholy mess. The Women's Title angle progressed nicely enough this week and I'm interested to see how they handle this Rosa angle over the coming weeks and how they're going to get her back on television now she's apparently banned from the arena. Speaking of the divas, Jillian Hall truly deserves a push of some kind. Her gimmick still brings a smile to my face and her work against Kelly was great this week. Meanwhile the Raw main event scene continues to become increasingly interesting thanks to a one man show from Shawn Michaels. HBK was phenomenal from start to finish in 2008 and is bringing that form into 2009 with him. His performance during this week’s main event wasn't the master class we saw last week, but once again he was brilliant in his conflicted role. WWE has given him an almost impossible role to play in this angle and for the past three weeks, he's done it brilliantly and I'm looking forward to Cena vs. Michaels next week.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: anywhere Shawn's involved in; Miz/Morrison vs. Rey/Kofi. Worst: Kelly vs. Jillian. Tonight was the story of little things adding up to equal big things. There was a lot of attention to details, like Punk not forgetting about losing the (not mentioned it was tainted) King of the Ring to Regal. Orton is reminded that while Manu lost last week, so did Orton. And again Orton will have to answer to his own loss, and questions of leading by example. The Santino-Beth-Melina-Rosa quadrangle got another nice little dose. I'm just wishing it still didn't feel so deja vu. Vince's return might be a good thing because something's been eating at me about the two attempts on his life (one was aborted on TV but could still exist in storyline). I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out the obvious suspects aren't the culprit...JBL is. Who's to say that Shawn Michaels isn't "undercover?" Speaking of Shawn, he lived up to Lawler's labeling of "independent thinker." His two assists to JBL have actually come within the rules of those matches. He may be under JBL's thumb, but that doesn't mean he can't "talk." Note the clue to Cena about past history and expectations, which Cena heeded. And listen carefully; you will see why Shawn won the main event: JBL tried to pull the same verbal fast one on him that Randy pulled on Sim. To borrow from Triple H's theme: "it's all about the word and how you say it." Last week, Shawn was playing to the crowd and the cameras; this week he's played more to the camera. Anger, regret, remorse, frustration, sadness, and loads of resisted temptation all visited his face at some point or another during the night. There have been lots of places for Shawn to turn straight-up heel, but for this storyline they'd all be the easy way out. The Showstopper is tip-of-the-tongue back in play. It's only a matter of when and how.
