1/25 WWE Royal Rumble PPV Reax

Mike Omansky, PWTorch reader (5.0): Best match: Cena-JBL. Worst match: Royal Rumble. This was one of the weakest Royal Rumbles ever. Too many entrants who were just "fillers" and didn't have a shot, and the Orton win was telegraphed to us for the past week in giant headlights. Hardy-Edge was fine with the Matt turn. Shawn Michaels was excellent in his role. Matches were good, albeit not "special."

Matt Johnson of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. (9.0): Best Match: Royal Rumble. Worst Match: Divas Match. There were actually no bad matches on this show. Solid effort from everybody. While Orton winning the Rumble was predictable, it was the right thing to do. I think the video package on past Rumbles made them realize that most of the winners drew either the really high or really low numbers. To make it more unpredictable, they put some heavy hitters in the middle. The athleticism of the roster was apparent with the large number of near-eliminations. A major surprise entry, like a Hulk Hogan, would have added more excitement. There was lots of intrigue with the group I watched the show with during the Cena-JBL match. The story continues to build. Jeff Hardy is an animal and I hope for his sake, he slows down. Fans are really going to get behind him and I hope we haven't seen the last of him at the main event level. The divas match was good because of Beth's strength, Melina's flexibility, and Santino's comedy. The ECW match was a success because it was different from most WWE matches. Jack Swagger actually does mat wrestling, which is a good change of pace. For the record, the lone girl in our group was pulling for Orton and Cena the whole night and salivating at the thought of a WrestleMania match between them.
