1/29 TNA Impact TV Reax
Ian Denbow of Bowie, Md. (6.0): Best: Chet Lemon and Black Snow. Worst: ODB vs. the Kongtourage. I know that a lot of people thought that Booker was awful. Yes, he was. So awful that it was the most brilliant thing that TNA has done in quite a while. After the disastrous women's match (I don't know how they should have jobs after this match), The Lemon/Snow commentary was the only thing that kept me tuned in. Well, aside from Steiner's pure genius. Yes, it's re-doing the NWO angle. And? I would rather hear Nash/Booker on commentary every week over Don West and Mike Tenay, who are the epitome of absolute crap, and one of my major gripes with TNA. Seriously, I'm supposed to buy into the commentary of someone who used to sell me baseball cards on the Home Shopping Network, and can't even dress himself properly? The bit with Booker beating the Frontline while still doing commentary was great. Yes, it buried the Frontline a bit, but no more than they've already been buried, and it was what it was - hilarious. To be honest, I fell asleep not long after Tenay and West were put back to work, but I am very glad I caught the first hour. Lastly - why, oh why, do they keep putting Christopher Daniels in these ridiculous costumes? The Suicide character is stupid. Point blank. I cannot imagine that there is anyone outside of the TNA creative department that would rather see Daniels in a costume, than as the Fallen Angel. TNA - listen to your fans, it's not that hard.
Kyle Geiger of Houma, La. (0.0): What a horrible show. There was nothing good about this show at all. TNA manages to once again kill all the babyfaces by having them on the end of a beatdown every episode. How long are we supposed to wait for the Frontline to start looking like they belong? I have never been more pleased to hear Mike Tenay and Don West after hearing Booker and Nash and their non-stop talking. Way to kill one of your better tag teams by having Angle beat Hernandez and Homicide by himself. This company manages to take any goodwill they get and crap on it.
Cedric Ethier (government official) of Ottawa, Ont. (8.0): Best: MEM takeover. Worst: TNA taking back control. I've said a lot of things about TNA in the past. I've mentioned that they weren't funny at all and last night I had to swallow my pride and admit that I was wrong because this was one hell of a good show for a basic Impact. Don West better up his game a little bit because Kevin Nash could surely do a better job as color commentator. It's too bad that Booker kept talking non-stop because Nash was excellent. Scott Steiner was also very good as the ring announcer; it reminded me of his old promos in WCW when he was insulting the women, talking about sleeping with women, etc. Just some good, classic Steiner stuff. ODB seemed a little dirtier than usual last night and that was also funny. Booker T's match against the referees was good. I don't care if he was fighting refs, those were the best axe kicks that I've ever seen. Watching Morgan destroy Petey along with Steiner made me think that Morgan might not be as bad as I imagined. Morgan looks way more believable as a heel. Sting vs. Team 3D made it look like Angle's going to take control of MEM along with the TNA World Title. Mick Foley arrived to save the day, in other words, he came to make Impact boring again. I would have enjoyed the show if MEM had control for the whole two hours, but they swerved to make it look less like the NWO. Angle defeated LAX by himself, which was sort of like an "in yo face" for Mick Foley and The Frontline. Honorable mentions go to Booker T for kicking butt while commentating in the ring.
