John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Sportswriter (6.5): Best match: Goldust vs. Sheamus. Worst: Tony Atlas's Kevin Eubanks impersonation. This was an ECW that came down a few notches from last week. Has Shelton done a full-face turn? Just don't see chemistry with the Gold Standard and Zack Ryder to have a long, drawn-out feud, but Zack has great heel presence. He should work behind the scenes with Chris Jericho to further develop his character. Not surprised to see Christian come out to confront the ECW version of the TNA World Elite. Tommy Dreamer coming up as a back-up was cool, but it would have been cooler to have a true ECW Original surprisingly show up like Sabu to back Captain Charisma. It may end up eventually being a returning Rey Mysterio from his suspension as a demotion. I'm thinking Tony Atlas should have stayed retired or returned as Saba Simba than playing Barack Washington's flunky. Katie Lea needs a female face Diva to feud with. Maybe Tiffany or Courtney? Better yet, break her and "brother" Paul up and send Katie to Smackdown and have her be the mystery woman that Melina saw Dolph Ziggler with. Sheamus is a future superstar. He has a unique look and reminds me a little of Scott Norton from WCW. Now he needs another feud, how about Finlay? Last quick Raw thought: Have Big Show grow back the mustache. His shaved mustache is the worst facial hair breach since Triple H's Harley Race lambchops look a few years back.
-- 8/31 WWE Raw Reax
Alex of Portland, Ore. (8.0): I thought Raw had the best opening segment in quite some time or maybe because last week was so bad. Dusty was great mainly because what he said made sense. The idea of Rhodes vs. Orton was intriguing even with knowing the likely outcome. Jericho. I love that the guy isn't even all big and muscular and he still just kills it as a heel. Solid match between MVP and Jericho, but something that always bothered me with the MVP "ballin'" move is that it takes so long to execute and seems to have little impact. First he plays to the crowd, then goes of the ropes, then does some lame pose, then lands some weak move. This is a trend with a lot of wrestlers these days. I think The Rock's people's elbow is to blame for these type of moves, especially when he started winning matches with it. I hate to say this because I can't DX, but the skits were pretty entertaining with the highlight being the Shockmaster. Although, I don't know how many fans really know what they were talking about. I mean these are the same "educated" fans that were cheering the Hornswoggle-Chavo brutal segment. I feel so bad the Bourne has to pretend to be into to this, and why is he helping Horny? Because he's a midget? I don't get it. The fatal four-way was good but I felt like there was something missing. For some reason I still didn't believe that match elevated those up-and-comers and I can't quite put I finger on it. Maybe because all four wrestlers are basically at the same level. Beth vs. Mickie had was the first entertaining divas match I've seen in quite awhile. I feel I'm in the minority in saying I liked the last segment, maybe because I was dumb enough to believe they were going to at last wrestle each other for awhile. What really made the segment for me was Orton giving the RKO to Dusty and Cody holding himself back. I LOVED how Orton never even turned around knowing Cody wouldn't do anything. I can't believe I'm saying this...good Raw!
