-- 9/7 WWE Raw Reax
John Dupont of Baton Rouge, La. (8.0): Best match: Chris Jericho vs. MVP. Worst Match: Chavo Guerrero vs. Evan Bourne. Honestly, I rated this program high because Bob Barker stole the show. Some may ask why he would appear on Raw, but there really isn't much difference between this program and what he did on "The Price is Right" or "Truth or Consequences." Both were shows that made spectacles of the contestants, albeit tastefully. It was a fun show and the few moments of in-ring wrestling weren't bad either. They finally got it right on MVP-Jericho. MVP got a nice boost of credibility while Jericho lost none of his heat. I wish just once they'd use Bourne and Guerrero for more than sideshow fodder. Both are so much better than that, which is why I was so ticked off about their match. The main event did a decent job of selling the pay-per-view, but the overall program did not. But it didn't matter: Bob Barker's appearance took what has been a very lackluster show as of late, and made it a very enjoyable program. Even at 85, he has more charisma than most people a quarter of his age.
-- 9/4 WWE Smackdown Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (10.0): Best: Morrison vs. Mysterio. Worst: that was it? (a/k/aTaker's return). Wow, wow, wow, and wow! Even with the flaws, Smackdown was still top to bottom a great show. Like WrestleMania 25, it was a one-match show with no offense to the rest of the card on either night. Unlike WrestleMania 25, that one match didn't have to elevate nearly as much of the rest of the program to credible status. I wasn't fooled when Punk came out dressed as Jeff, so I enjoyed watching the faces of the crowd change when they realized they had been had. Of course, using this as a "cry wolf" mechanism will backfire after a while. His calling out the crowd as addicts is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it sure works as a heat generator. Kane-Khali is becoming "The Feud That Won't End" much like Chavo-Hornswoggle. At least there is some substance to the feud with Kane still obsessing over Singh. Hope Finlay is okay after whatever specifically caused that gash on his arm. The end of the divas promo segment left some interesting directions to continue with, still including a possible Maria heel turn. The tag match that would follow wasn't all that match, and barely served as a move-along point for the Cryme/Eve-Harts/Natalya feud. Anyone know how much time is left of the defense clause of the Divas Title, or will it get the Trish Treatment and have that factoid ignored waiting for Michelle to recuperate? Don't know what Drew McIntyre has in his repertoire other than a double arm DDT, but I like how he's starting. Mysterio went out with a lot of grace, at least on TV. The match was on par with the Michaels-Taker WrestleMania match in terms of quality and the way the crowd went nuts for it. I'm hoping the chants for Morrison were legit and not just being said because those fans "knew something." To those who know the story, though it leaves you wondering the woulda-coulda-shouldas about the now-shifted Ziggler story. Was Ziggler supposed to finally get the IC Title, like I think it was headed? We'll never know. But the switch in champions isn't a total restart for Ziggler, as it may have seemed at first. He could now be working a "shoulda been me" angle since someone else got the title before he had his chance to use his earned contendership. Matt's first match back went well. I'm surprised it was an attempted repeat of the chair necktie spot, but for what was coming it placed Punk in the right area. But that moment led to a huge disappointment. There was all this build up all this week for Undertaker's prodigal return to Smackdown,...and all we got was a chokeslam on a table? No promo explaining why he's targeting Punk? Nothing explaining his probable respect for the departed Hardy, who earned Taker's respect in the past? And how is it Taker gets a title shot when he hasn't been on TV in months to earn it? Ziggler earned his. There is still some time to give me those details, so I'm holding off on lowering the boom on Smackdown for the moment.
