-- 9/10 WWE Superstars Reax

Justin James of Columbia, S.C. (7.5): Best: Kingston/Primo vs. Swagger/Miz. Worst: Bellas-Burchill. This was a decent episode of Superstars, but it really lacked star power. The other big problem was too many matches + a Smackdown Rebound + Breaking Point hype = five matches, two of which could have gone much longer. I would have loved to see this show trimmed down to the tag match, the Bellas-Burchill match, and Tatsu-Sheamus. It’s hard to build momentum for Breaking Point when, other than Kane, no one on the show is scheduled for Breaking Point. (I know, Dolph Ziggler was scheduled...) Everyone was working hard this week on their normal shows, but all the same, there was little build to Breaking Point. The Yang-Kane match was fine for what it was, but it was something I could have done without. The Bella-Burchill match was surprisingly good. The finish made no sense; why do a switch just for one crossbody? Katie Lea did a great job carrying Nikki through the match, but Nikki’s early offense showed a remarkable amount of improvement compared to previous outings. Judging by the moves, I am guessing that Christian has been working with them, and it was definitely needed. Sheamus-Tatsu was very good; I look forward to seeing more of these two in the future, and it was a good preview for Sheamus-Benjamin. Tatsu is so over it isn’t funny. The crowd was behind him the whole match. Kudos to Yoshi Tatsu for that. SMJ-Ziggler was just there. SMJ looked like a mid-card jobber and Dolph got to be on TV. They missed an opportunity to explain Dolph’s feelings about having the IC Title stolen out from underneath him. This was essentially a squash match, but it’s nice to see Dolph cemented at a near main-event level on the Smachdown roster. The final match was top rate, lots of great energy, moves, and action. It should have had another five-to-ten minutes, but the guys did the best job possible with the time they had. I want to see Miz/Swagger as a team; they have what it takes to step into the Jericho/Big Show situation when those two move on. I hope this is the beginning of a permanent teaming for them.

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Swagger/Miz vs. Primo/Kofi. Worst: Bellas vs. Katie. This show meant well, but with Breaking Point coming up, this show didn't do a whole lot. I can get Kane squashing Yang only in the sense that Yang is enhancement. But JW Yang deserves better than this with the roll Smackdown's been on. And where was Khali for the save to further build that match? I don't think it would have spoiled anything for Smackdown. Bellas vs. Katie was pointless, and shows that the ladies really need to move elsewhere if all there is for them is repeating the past. The Bellas switching is a moot point with Finlay using the Shillelagh and no one really questioning face MVP's use of brass knux at the Las Vegas Raw. The non-match packages served their purpose of promoting the top matches. What I would have rather liked instead of the Bellas-Katie match was a promo by Dolph addressing the issue of Morrison getting the title ahead of him. It was nice that commentary made a big deal out of the Morrison-Ziggler match, but it will feel like a major bait and switch come PPV time. There's been no explanation for Rey's absence either, and like Jeff I don't expect him to be on Smackdown to give it. Telling the truth about his suspension will kill the mystique of Morrison's win. So far, the Morrison-Ziggler match is getting off on the wrong foot. Meanwhile, Jesse's not being given much chance to get over in the ring as Slam Master J, which is a shame for what he's done on the mic with the gimmick. Sheamus gets a win over Tatsu. What soured WWE over Tatsu, who's much better in the ring, so fast? And Sheamus still hasn't won me over. Maybe a "tweak" is in order; a tweak in style maybe. When Sheamus first started, he referenced Finlay, who's a known brawler. Maybe a brawling bully would suit more than what I'm seeing right now. The main event gave a nice showcase to the U.S. Title. I don't like Swagger's treatment since the switch to Raw, but at least he didn't do the job. I'm guessing Miz getting the win is more out of seniority, so to speak, since there seems to be no clear title push. Better Kofi be pinned here as a state of jeopardy is in play, but I can only see another multi-man match defense coming.

-- 9/8 ECW TV Reax

Justin James of Columbia, S.C. (9.5): Best: Main Event. Worst: None. Due to DVR mishaps, I missed the opening ten minutes and the final five minutes of this show. But what I saw was outstanding. The Burchill-Hurricane match was excellent, and I wouldn't mind seeing this feud built like Goldust-Sheamus was. Whoever taught Burchill that Pele kick needs to spend a few more hours with him to further expand his repertoire; moves like that will take him from being another large mid-card jobber to bigger and better things. The crowd was insanely hot throughout the whole show, awesome energy. The mid-card tag match was decent enough. I thought Shelton was finally on a face turn? What really stood out was the post-match brawl. Like the Goldust-Sheamus match that ended in a double count-out a few weeks ago, this one looked seriously legit. Benjamin did some insane leap out of the arms of the referees that made him look like the Incredible Hulk jumping a bridge. Goldust still had a ton of energy in the ring and Yoshi Tatsu is still on his way up too. Goldust's music kills me, because it sounds just like Chris Masters's in the opening note. Zach Ryder makes a jobber squash a lot of fun to watch. He gives the jobber credibility which in turn gives him credibility. I know why he faced the jobber since the entire male roster was in other matches tonight and they wanted to get him on TV and keep him in our minds. No worries. I'd love to see him in a program with Yoshi Tatsu, and I think that he could teach Tyler Reks a lot. Even the backstage skit was well done. Tyler Reks's character was enhanced by the way he acted like an adult and maturely exited the room without looking like a coward. Regal shone as always. The main event was a great match and worked within the limitations of Dreamer, Koslov, and Jackson. It had the feeling of a barely contained street brawl, which played well. While I didn't get to see the end, the match was absolutely brilliant. The crowd was hot for Christian/Dreamer and Koslov/Jackson looked like giant monsters who worked well as a team. (Why can't Smackdown partner up Kane and Mike Knox like we've seen in the past?) However this ended didn't matter as everyone looked great.
