-- 9/18 WWE Smackdown Reax

Justin James of Columbia, S.C., IT professional, author (6.0): Best: Morrison-Knox. Worst: Kane-Khali. This show was really off. Batista's opening promo was a typical Batista promo, but Jericho's felt a bit lacking. Why would Jericho care about Batista? He dropped the "face of Smackdown" angle ever since he and Edge joined up. If Jericho wants to go on the "face of Smackdown" kick, I would think that C.M. Punk or Taker qualify much more than Batista, who hasn't been on Smackdown in a while. I am not looking forwards to a Jericho-Batista feud, but it could be worse. (Batista and Big Show could be going at it, and I feel like they will next week.) I am also not thrilled at the seeds of discontent planted in the Jericho-Big Show team. I actually like that pairing. The matches were bland overall, other than the Morrison-Knox event, which not only showed off Morrison's amazing athleticism, but Knox's relative agility. The Knox crossbody continues to impress, and Morrison really wowed me by landing on his feet gracefully after the springboard moonsault to the outside. Ziggler on commentary was good, although he is still struggling a bit to sound confident. Morrison is also sounding better on the mic. (He hasn't sounded really strong since he broke up with Miz.) Ziggler also talked up Morrison nicely, while trying to elevate himself. I am really feeling a slow face turn for Ziggler. The Maria-Dolph soap opera is still utterly fascinating while being really cheesy. I'm hopelessly sucked into it, and I am interested to see how it ends. The Melina-McCool bout really bothered me. It really looked to me like McCool is still injured, and I was wincing throughout, hoping that she didn't come back early just to maintain a push. Ditto for Khali; I know the man got into that ring injured, and it bothered me. The stair shots to the leg were not well done, it was obvious that Kane wasn't making contact, and Khali barely sold it. It also felt all too much like a repeat of Orton's final assault on Shane McMahon from a few months ago. The crowd was horribly silent for this, and the Cryme Time-Hart Dynasty match. That was a fine match, but the combination is getting really stale, really quickly. Let's freshen it up a bit by throwing R-Truth and Drew McIntyre into those teams for a six-man tag. Or get more Eve-Natalya matches going. That feud either needs to get heated up or thrown out, despite the fact that they have good chemistry together. I would like to see Hart Dynasty treated more as a stable and less as a team sometimes.

C.M. Punk's promo just dragged on and on... the "Boring" chant was right on. C.M. Punk's promos need to be a few minutes shorter. I know they are trying to fill a segment with them, but there just isn't enough meat there, which really exposes the weaknesses of his rivalry with The Undertaker. Finally, The Undertaker situation has already annoyed me. The guy has been back over a month now, and we haven't actually seen him in a match other than Breaking Point. Meanwhile, I'm treated to really cheesy skits that look like a direct-to-DVD horror film, complete with lousy "My First Sony" sound effects and dumb neon lights; it looked like that awful "Batman and Robin" film with the colors. Taker's motivations are still completely undefined, and if we were basing the "face/heel" definitions purely on actions, C.M. Punk would be a face and Taker would be a strong heel. Smackdown is well on its way to being the "crashing star of the month," I hate to say.
