Brian Rathjen of Eldridge, Iowa: Didn't see much of the show except for the main event and the last half of the Cedric-Chavo Guerrero match. The Lillian Garcia farewell was well done, and gave her a moment to shoot; in that moment, she conveyed true emotion and I really believe she is going to miss the fans and her fellow WWE staff. As for the main event, while it wasn't wrong, it sure was predictable. How about throwing us a swerve for once ... like, say, a double disqualification and then BOTH Randy Orton and John Cena having to compete in their own gauntlets before facing each other at the end of the show? That's original, and methinks it would build up a lot more interest for their PPV "Hell in a Cell" match.
J.Ingres, Torch reader: I can't rate this show because I kept switching channels between Raw, and, well, anything else that was on TV. I finally ended up reading a book. I watch Raw out of habit, a habit that I've had for many years. Without any effort on my part, this habit has been kicked simply by the show becoming so dull. I think I'll be switching my "wrestling night" to ECW or Smackdown. TNA and Raw are finally equal - equally lame.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Cena/MVP/Henry vs. Jericho/Show/Orton; Lilian's goodbye promo. Worst: Chavo vs. Cedric. First and foremost, Chavo must be suffering from a concussion to think this never-ending feud with Hornswoggle is doing him any favors. It looks like a DX win in the Hell In A Cell, but Triple H's promo gave Legacy an easy out: inexperience. I'm not sure how a standard tag team match can exist under HIAC rules, though. The DX-McMahons one referred to in Hunter's promo was done Texas Tornado style. Finally, I
hear Lawler make the correct statement regarding the Breaking Point match: DX (as a team) did not submit; DX member Shawn Michaels submitted. It's a team loss to stake bragging rights on, but only one of them actually tapped out. This has been rubbing me the wrong way since the PPV. And I guess Lawler has amnesia of being present when Shawn tapped out to Benoit at Backlash 2004, Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21, and John Cena at WrestleMania 23. The U.S. Title chase intrigues me. Swagger and Miz are showing in the ring that they can easily earn their title opportunities (and possible runs). But the title is important enough to them that they are willing to steal it right out of each other's hands regardless of who the current champ is. WWE's guest GM concept is allowing the thievery to continue without much incident, though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Orton lost to Cena at the PPV and Legacy beat DX, right? So why would Randy not want to take them to the next level simultaneous to them being on the cusp of finishing off DX? Bringing in the unrelated non-generational Jeri-Show to deal with Cena at the contract signing should be seen as a slap to the face. Probably won't be taken that way, though. A punt to Ted's head and Dusty's RKO didn't do it, so why should this? Alicia Fox got in a cheap shot after Mickie was essentially squashed by Beth, which made Mickie look very weak as a champion. In the main event, commentary had problems with the hot tag by MVP to Mark Henry. It didn't even look close to me, but it looked like it was allowed to stay with the booking as was. Cena will probably soldier on next week, but the guest GM (no, I haven't peeked) could overturn on replay. You would think the next's week's GM would be watching. And finally, to Lilian, it's been a great ten years. Here's to success in your future endeavors. WWE may not always seem sincere in their statement, but I am. Have fun, Lilian. :)
