Jesse Thomas of Virginia: I thought I would give this a chance. The original ECW was like pure vodka. WWECW was like a bad, watered-down beer. NXT is nothing but water. How long will Syfy let this crap go before they tell WWE to pack their bags and get off their network? This isn't going to pull any better ratings. Daniel Bryan is already under contract, and you know with the push they gave him tonight, he's going to be the winner. I kept nodding off the whole show. Exciting, my hump! Predictable monkey crap, it is. I guess I'm canceling the DVR series recording. I always liked Tough Enough when it was its own series. That would have been better. Cole trying to be the heel announcer was a joke.
Patrick Michael of Rochester, N.Y. (6.0): A really interesting concept that seems like it may really start to click here in the next few weeks if they don't get cutesy with the buildup and storylines. While there were some cringe-worthy moments that don't match with reality, such as going over promo ability, the obvious star for however long this season goes looks to be Danielson. I wish they would have gotten some footage of him working in Japan or been able to secure the right to show some Ring of Honor so that those that are not hardcore fans know who he is. I am sure a large portion of the audience probably came out asking why he is so bandied about by Matthews. The major drawback was the awful close-up camera angle that they were using that seemed to miss a lot of the peripheral action on the outside of the ring. I'd like to see them just switch back the hard camera. I thought it detracted from the actual in-ring work tonight.
Nathan H.: Danielson mocked The Mix for getting famous from a reality TV show, but WWE seems to be handling NXT just like that. Otunga even made the comment that he was going to "win" NXT. It could be an overlooked mis-speak, but this reeks of reality television. I can't stand reality TV, but it makes it tricky because I liked a lot of these new guys as wrestlers. Reality TV is silly, and I'm not going to be watching if I keep getting this feeling.
Bryan Lynch of Denver, Colo. (5.0): Best Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Chris Jericho. Worst: Michael Cole on commentary. Michael Cole is an idiot. I know that's not news to anyone who has heard him over the last 13 or so years in WWE, but this was by far his worst night on the job. I know Cole was doing his job, but who is Michael Cole to dismiss a wrestler who has been working the independents trying to catch his break? If more wrestlers took the path Bryan took, maybe we'd end up with more C.M. Punks and fewer Chris Masters. As for the show, it was okay. It was much better than ECW. The format is good, and WWE will have at least two stars out of this class in Otunga and Bryan. The biggest flaw in this show is the same thing that is the biggest flat in WWE: a wrestling company's lack of desire to push a wrestling product. The whole idea behind a wrestling match is two guys enter a ring, both of them wanting to win. But we never heard anything about anyone's wrestling ability tonight; it was all about "charisma" or "personality." That's exactly why WWE has failed so miserably to create new stars over the last ten years. They want charisma over actual wrestling. But, overall, a solid start to the show. I can at least say I'll tune in next week; over the last three years, I think I only watched ECW a handful of times because it was so bad.
