-- WWE Raw Reax 1/23

Frank of Anaheim, Calif. (3.0/5.0): So, the Royal Rumble is in two weeks. That's what I would have thought after watching Raw, but WWE had literally the whole month of January to hype the Royal Rumble and they didn't do a good job on that. First, the Cena-Kane Feud may reach it's climax because now Cena has enough anger to beat up Kane. But, Eve playing the "it's your fault" card was smart and it allowed Cena to show he reacted. The Punk-Laurinaitis feud is at least keeping Raw alive; heck, Smackdown is beating them. Also, Jericho finally talked and those few words said it all. It's just curious why WWE didn't hype the Rumble match more then Punk vs. Ziggler.

Matt in Westbrook, Maine, auto detailer: I thought Raw did a good job promoting the Rumble, but they should have been doing this for the past month and not just the week before. The 25th Rumble should have had major hype... The Cena vs. Kane feud should be an interesting match at the Rumble. It should be a Street Fight or a No Holds Barred match to make it a true brawl, so Cena can get "revenge" for Ryder, who was in a good fight with a great ending to his match with Kane... Wade Barrett is getting better every week. It was good to see him on commentary. Barrett vs. Shamus could be a great feud between two guys fighting for the top spot... Brodus Clay continues to impress me and I hope he makes a splash in the Rumble... Dolph Ziggler is right there. If he doesn't beat C.M. Punk for the title, I will disappointed. But, if he doesn't win, it would a great way for him to get rid of Vickie. Punk-Ziggler could easily be a Match of the Year candidate and it's only the end of January. I'm expecting big things from both men. And, Big Johnny taking the GTS from Punk was great. I can't wait to see if he screws Punk over on Sunday.

Joey B. in N.J. (9.0): Solid build-up to the PPV - furthering angles and creating intrigue, with good matches to boot. The opening tag was a good showcase for Ziggler. The "show-off" stuff greatly fleshed out his character. He's still a bit tight on the mic; other than that, he has really come into his own. Jack Swagger showed some good intensity and seems to have more enthusiasm now... R-Truth and Miz picked up some steam again, and Miz being #1 in the Rumble has brought him back to the spotlight... As for Jericho, I respect what he is attempting and being given latitude for a slow build. However, his antics have become annoying in a not-good heat way. If football was still on, I would've switched until he was done stalling...

The Kane-Ryder/Cena angle has somehow kept me interested even though it's not terribly original. The slam through the floor bit needs to go away for a long time to have any effect again. Cena's close-up grimace had me laughing, not the desired effect, I'm sure. But, Eve's comment was unexpected... Funkasaurus must come straight from Vince McMahon, as it's totally his humor. Has anyone told him that the Run DMC get-up was, like, 25 years ago? It could be amusing for a mid-card gimmick on someone else, but Clay should be a monster heel. He reminds me of One Man Gang, who may not have been a great wrestler, but he was very successful in his role. I think all can agree this smacks of a stereotype as well... Does anyone else feel sympathy for Laurinaitis when Punk belittles him? Punk seems like a bully here. Despite that, the build and angle has me thinking about where it's going... Jinder is getting jobbed out, which is too bad. He's green, but with some experience and character development, he could be an interesting heel someday... I'm also curious about where they're headed with Daniel Bryan, as it's another example of (hopefully) building toward something meaningful. I rarely order PPVs anymore, but this card has shaped up well, several angles have me intrigued, and the Rumble is usually fun.
