WWE PPV Reax #4: More strong opinions for/against Rumble, did Brodus & comedy have a place on this PPV?

-- WWE Royal Rumble PPV Reax 1/29

Luke Busken of Columbia, Ill., sales account rep (1.0): I went to this show and was very disappointed, especially that none of the matches brought any closure. The cage match was weak, WSM Mark Henry spent the whole match on his back, and the finish was way too soft for PPV. The crowd was really into the Cena vs. Kane match, so, for it to end in a double count-out was very poor. Punk vs. Ziggler was okay, but I'm not sure why John Laurinaitis is even employed by WWE, let alone a key figure in a WWE Title match. The Rumble match had 10 true Superstars and it felt more like a bad comedy bit than a feature PPV match. If Orton would have won, it would have made it much better. Instead, I left the arena thoroughly disappointed.

Richard in Scotland, solicitor (7.0): Best Match: Rumble. Worst Match: Clay vs. McIntyre. The reason that Clay's match was bad was because it should not have been on PPV. If WWE is thinking of "firing" someone, then you would not give them a one-on-one match on the PPV... I thought the Rumble match had a great blend of comedy and storytelling. It was great thinking, 'If that's Hacksaw, then who else have the got?' Truthfully, they could have done without Ziggler and Show coming back in, but it was still fun and I liked Kharma's entrance. She's believable. I didn't mind the announcers entering, but I might have had Booker last longer. Overall, the main reasons I liked the Rumble match were Primo's headstand, Kofi's handstand, and the finish. In the past, I've felt that the last elimination can be quick, but this was a great fight. Sheamus needed the win more than Jericho, and, as much as I am a huge Jericho fan, I would say it was the right call. I can see Wade Barrett winning the Elimination Chamber match now to set them up for Mania.

954, PWTorch reader (-1.0): Best: Mark Henry's guts for working hurt. Worst: everything else. This show was godawful. $45 wasted. #WWEowesmemoney.

Eric in Michigan (5.0): Best Match: Punk vs. Dolph. Worst: Divas. Predictable undercard results and C.M. Punk showed why he is WWE's top wrestler.

Neal Obermeyer of Omaha, Neb. (1.0): I felt compelled to write in my thoughts after seeing even sort-of positive reviews of this show. This was easily the worst Royal Rumble I've ever seen. The whole show felt like filler. Whether it was pointless matches, intros that lasted longer than the matches themselves, or long video packages - it's as if WWE forgot that people were paying money for these three hours. I understand including a comedy segment or two in the Rumble match, but the humor attempts in this year's main event felt relentless, not to mention unfunny. This felt like a promotion short on talent and shorter on ideas. Probably the most telling difference with this show was in the crowd I watch it with. Some friends and I go to a local sports bar that is packed with die-hards who cheer when they're supposed to cheer and boo when they're supposed to boo. WWE lost the whole bar. I have never seen the loyal customers reject a show like they did. It's gotten to the point where this bar's burgers might not be enough to get me to come watch PPVs anymore.

Kenny Baren of Bartlett, Ill. (3.0): Best Match: Punk vs. Ziggler. Worst Match: Royal Rumble. It is not that I hated the outcome of the Royal Rumble because I was pleasantly surprised to see to Sheamus win the match. However, the Rumble itself was a waste as I should not have to pay $55 to see Hacksaw Jim Duggan, the Road Dogg, and Michael Cole in this match when talented Superstars like Brodus Clay, William Regal, Tyson Kidd, and a host of others could have taken these spots. If WWE is going to have nostalgia acts in the Rumble, then take out the announcers. Further, Jericho indicated that he would make an impact, but, in reality, nothing happened. Kharma was a surprise, but just took Dolph Ziggler down a few notches and eliminated Cole. I also do not get why they built up Wade Barrett, only to have him eliminated so quickly. A Final Four appearance should have happened. I enjoyed the Divas match and am glad that Beth Phoenix is finally starting to become the dominant Diva possibly heading to a WrestleMania match with Kharma. I did enjoy C.M. Punk's match, although having him get four apparent falls was a bit excessive and took away momentum Ziggler had coming into this match. Overall, though, I bought the PPV to see the Rumble and, as a result, I was disappointed.
