WWE Raw Reax #2: "Raw showed it can be at its best & worst on the same show"

-- WWE Raw Reax 2/13

Jorge Lopez of Miami, Fla. (6.0): Best: HBK-Hunter-Taker. Worst: Cena-Eve kiss and Ryder spill. I thought the debate was a bad idea from the start. Look at C.M. Punk's face - he acted like he was thinking, "Are we really doing this?" Jericho and Punk are always good on the mic; everything else was noise... HBK was on-point like always. "Triple H, you married Stephanie and you lost your testicles." The re-match is going to happen. Now it's just a question of how HBK will be involved... The Cena-Eve kiss could go down as the worst bit of acting in the history of WWE production. John, you were supposed to be surprised; full-blown making out does not translate into a surprise on your part. Also, one day after a fellow wrestler in TNA was almost paralyzed, Ryder was sent flying off the stage onto concrete with no protection? I hope he had pads on or something else to break the impact on his knees. Not very classy by WWE and dangerous. Elimination Chamber? Exactly, I am at the "who cares" stage right now.

Joe Ward of Raleigh, N.C. (5.0): Best: Hunter-Michaels interaction. Worst: Cena-Kane. I thought Raw was a show of extremes, showing how it can be at both its best and its worst on the same show. The opening did nothing for me - I thought the debate format was lame and the breakdown was predictable. Dolph almost saved it by pointing out that it wasted 15 minutes of his life, though. The Hunter-Michaels exchange was fantastic - it is how you build suspense and intrigue. Both guys came with realistic emotion - Michaels calling Hunter a sell-out was great, and Hunter's response about being responsible for "all of this" was realistic, and that "Taker is good for business" was logical. I'm very interested in where this goes - maybe Michaels says he'll take the match instead, forcing Hunter's hand. The only down-side was that it once again pointed out that current roster cannot cut a promo close to the older guys... The rest of the show had okay-to-good Matches. But, Cena-Kane? Seriously? Both Laurinaitis and Hunter were present - the two top authority figures in WWE - and viewers are supposed to believe that neither has any issues with Kane's actions? They don't care if he cripples wrestlers? Kidnaps and terrorizes Divas? The suspension of disbelief required was too much. And, the ambulance scene - Eve jumping into Cena's arms for a kiss - felt thrown together on the fly and not convincing. I even considered that maybe Eve is working with Kane. It looked like she voluntarily got in the ambulance, and then Cena had to convince her to get out of it, when no one was making her stay in it. It just looked bad And, again, nothing to further the Cena-Rock feud.

Matt of Westbrook, Maine, auto detailer (5.0): I believe the past two weeks of Raw have been weak. The Raw right after the Rumble was great and WWE dropped the ball going into the Chamber. On the bright side, the Chamber matches should be great. The line-ups they have make it seem very reasonable that anyone could win either match. So, good job on that front by WWE... Cena and Kane has gotten ridiculous. Their match better be one for the ages to make up for these past two weeks on Raw... Undertaker vs. Triple H is shaping up. There's no need to rush this. With HBK getting involved, this match could very easily surpass last year's. I just wonder if Taker is healthy enough.

Richard H. of Wilmington, Ohio: (4.0) Wow. I thought that was a horrible show. From the doomed "debate" to the overly-long chat fest between Trips and HBK to the soap opera-like episode of Cena and Lil Zak, I thought the show was awful. My score is being generous. There was no best match, as every match kept getting overshadowed by the talking heads. The announcing reached new lows with Lawler unable to keep up with Cole's dizzying flip-flops and backstage interviews by interchangeable mannequins. The only positives from this drek were HBK returning (even if his bit was overwrought, it was still great to see him), and Taker hinting at his bald head in his video. At least, I hope he was shaving his head. After two-plus-hours, I not only don't care if I see the Chamber PPV, I am not even sure it is worth tuning in next week for the fall-out. WrestleMania can't come soon enough so I no longer have to watch extended promos from a part-time wrestler who will be gone by April 3. At this point, the prospect of the two main events featuring a Superstar I am sick of, a part-time wrestler with no intent of coming back full-time, and two geriatrics with their feet already in the door of retirement at the expense of quality young talent just leaves me cold.
