-- WWE Raw Reax 4/9

Joey B. in N.J. (4.0): Great to see an old-school locker room emptying pull-apart! That was an intense segment, except for Cena walking to the ring with a smirk after he got smashed last week. I can't picture Bruno, or Hogan, or most other champs getting faked out and squashed one week, and coming out the next week smirking to confront the other guy. I wish Lesnar wasn't getting thrown in with Cena so quickly, especially in the extreme PPV coming up as their first match... The Three Stooges bits were awful (good Hogan impersonation, though)... I really dislike the Jericho-Punk angle. I try to imagine fans with those issues having to sit through those segments. It's so cheap and Vince Russo-ish, I changed the channel... Otunga had more oil on him than the Gulf... I cringed again watching the replay of Ziggler taking that bump on the walkway off Clay. Reminds me of that "bump card" that's mentioned here and there. He's a consistent highlight on Raw... I feel like Lesnar is in the same spot as Rock, with so many cheering for him especially against Cena. I'm very confused by WWE booking these days, and this episode of Raw didn't help any.

Richard H. of Wilmington, Ohio (5.5): What a great way to open the show. A pull-apart brawl between two wrestlers is an ugly thing - and it's high time they had one. Lesnar proved his carelessness once again by actually hitting Cena before raining down a series of clear misses. Isn't this a part of why he left the first time? He doesn't know the stage part of the business. Sure, he can devastate a guy in the ring, but his play-acting is terrible. He has no depth and no control. But, he was entertaining, even at a brute level. Speaking of big brutes that are terrible at not hurting guys, how long before Lord Albert Tensai and Clay cripple somebody for real? ... As for the WWE Title, which is getting lost in all the hoopla, the two grapplers are showing what you can do when you inject just the right level of intensity into a feud. I feel a deep desire to have Punk squash Jericho like a bug - and I like Chris Irvine. But, I hate his character of Y2J, which means he is doing his job. So, best of the night goes to the pull-apart brawl with a strong nod to the Punk-Jericho bit... Since the Divas weren't allowed to embarrass themselves this week, worst goes to the Four Stooges (Moe, Larry, Curly, and Santino). The show would have been an easy 8.0 for me if not for the Stooges - and that includes Laryngitis's stooge, Otunga. They brought it down to a mediocre 5.5.

Eric in Michigan (6.5): Best: Cena getting an F5. Worst: Tensai. The opening segment was good, but I could have done without Johnny introducing Brock... Brodus and Santino winning the opening tag match should cement them as no. 1 contenders. Tensai yuck. The stooges were okay. Jericho-Punk should be awesome at Extreme Rules. Overall, the crowd stunk.

James of Boonton, N.J. (4.0): Best: Lesnar gives Cena a fat lip, then low-blows and F5’s him. Worst: Three Stooges. Overall, kind of a boring show. The only exciting part was Brock. In fact, here’s a hint to WWE writers – if you can promise me that Brock will punch Cena square in the mouth every week, I’ll tune in regularly! By the way, props to Brock for apparently improving his promo skills. Here’s hoping Brock mows down everything in his path for the next 12 months, including Cena multiple times... I really wish WWE would stop with the awkward cross-promotions. It’s bad enough that some dopey Hollywood executive thought reviving an outdated 1930s-era slapstick act and force-feeding it to 2012 audiences with completely different sensibilities would make a great movie. Putting these guys in a wrestling ring and validating what a stupid idea it was by having the crowd boo them through the whole segment is even worse. What’s next, W.C. Fields squirting C.M. Punk with a seltzer bottle? Yeah, of course – not funny... By the way, I’m not a fan of the current Punk-Jericho storyline. The whole drug and alcohol addiction thing is just a little too edgy for me. It fails to entertain and just feels pretty uncomfortable all around.
