PWTorch Arena Report Flashback - 10 years ago
USA Wrestling house show report
February 9, 2002
Nashville, Tenn. at the Fairgrounds
Report by Larry Goodman

(1) Kevin White beat Lucky West (w/K–9 Kohl). Late in the match, Kohl climbed onto the apron, but White punched before pinning West.

Promoter Bert Prentice came out and offered fans one dollar tickets that would give them a chance to win a spot in the “fan participation strap match.” There were supposed to be eight winners, but one huge guy had two winning tickets. Later in the show, Prentice announced that Ric Flair will be appearing on an upcoming show, presumably against Jerry Lawler.

(2) James Storm fought Rick Michaels to a no–contest in a fan participation strap match. The match was slotted early in the card because Storm was working a double shot and needed to leave early for a match in Columbia. Michaels wore a raincoat and long pants to the ring and tried to make friends with the lumberjacks, but the fans didn’t buy it. The lumberjacks tried to strap Michaels through the raincoat. The big fan got in one really good shot, so Michaels avoided his side of the ring for the rest of the match. Later, both wrestlers punched the referee for the no–contest decision.

(3) Kory Williams beat Ricky Murdoch with a second rope legdrop. The match was like a sedative as both wrestlers seemed to work half–speed. During the match, Murdoch used a chain as a weapon, promoting the kid next to me to instruct the referee to “Look in his dang underwear.”

(4) Todd Sexton beat Slim J with a superkick. A decent match, but it lacked heat since this was Sexton’s first appearance and there was no issue between him and Slim J.

(5) Adam Jacobs (w/Jeff G. Bailey) beat Jimmy Rave with a guillotine legdrop. The best match of the night.

(6) Me Inc. (Mike Rapada & Big Bully Douglas) beat The Hotshots (Cassidy O’Reilly & Chase Stevens). In the end, Rapada spike piledrove O’Reilly for the win.

(7) Chris Harris beat Rick Michaels to retain the USA Title. Michaels was a last minute replacement for Jason Cross, whose no–show was a mystery.

(8) Doug Gilbert & Tommy Rich beat Larry Zbyszko & Terry Taylor (w/Athena). Before the match, Zbyszko cut a heel promo and took a shot at Rich’s weight by saying that Athena brought an extra bra for him to wear. Rich fired back with comments about Zbyszko’s hair loss. Late in the match, Chris Harris came out and helped Gilbert while Rich and Zbyszko brawled to the back. Gilbert threw a fireball at Taylor before scoring the pin. After the match, Rich chewed out Gilbert and Harris before saying he would appear for polaroids in the ring. There were not very many takers.
