HEADLINE: The Ultimate Warrior Wins WWF World Title
By Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

Ultimate Warrior pinned Hulk Hogan 25 minutes into their excellent WrestleMania VI main event to become the new WWF World champion. Hogan and Warrior hugged after the bout.

Hogan received more cheers than Warrior did during ring introductions, although it was close. The match began with tests of strength and power with both men equal. Hogan was on offense more than Warrior. Hogan hurt his knee early, which Gorilla Monsoon described as a "temporary dislocation of the patella tendon."

Late in the match, Warrior used his last bit of energy to press Hogan and drop him. Warrior completed his finishing sequence by splashing Hogan on the back and rolling him over. But, Hogan kicked out just before the three count.

After a sequence of more close falls and a ref bump, each wrestler took turns covering the other while the ref was out. Hogan began his Superman comeback, making it look like the usual finish. After a foot to the face, Hogan dropped his leg over the fallen Warrior. But, Warrior moved out of the way, splashed Hogan, and covered him for a three count. (Note: no one has yet to kick out of the leg drop.)

Warrior celebrated as Hogan retrieved his title belt. Hogan entered the ring, presented Warrior with the belt, raised his arm, and hugged him. Hogan left without posing as Warrior soaked up the cheers from the fans as the show faded to black.

A truly phenomenal match for the two muscle-bound men. The drama and close falls made up for a lack of pure wrestling technique. (****1/4)
