by James Caldwell, Assistant editor

Original question: The first WCW Saturday Night-related Torch Trivia question will take us back to January 7, 1995. The show concluded with Mean Gene Okerlund interviewing Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage. However, in a real test of strength, what was the actual TV main event on the TBS show?

(a) Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) beat Brad & Scott Armstrong
(b) Johnny B. Badd beat Paul Roma
(c) Nasty Boys won a customary squash
(d) Stars & Stripes (Buff Bagwell & The Patriot) won a squash

The answer is (b) Johnny B. Badd beat Paul Roma. The future "Wildman" Marc Mero defeated Roma with a roll-up out of nowhere when Roma missed with an elbow drop to retain the WCW TV Title. Of note from the show was a Mean Gene 900-Hotline plug, Sister Sherri trying to court Buff Bagwell, and the Nastys and Alex Wright picking up squash match victories.

Torch Trivia aficionado (I'm running out of adjectives) Dusty Robinson checks in with more details. About what was going on at the time - Badd would lose the TV Title the next day to Arn Anderson at a Main Event taping. Roma had been a team with Paul Orndorff called Pretty Wonderful, which won the tag titles on a few occasions and was now being used as enhancement talent to help build young stars. He was fired when he made Alex Wright look bad at Superbrawl V that year. Stars & Stripes had just lost the tag titles to Harlem Heat the month before and the Nasty Boys would lose their match against tag champions Harlem Heat at Superbrawl V by DQ. Well done.

-- Checking on the responses, our winners for the Jan. 7 Torch Trivia question: VIP site reader Chuck Starbucks, regular site readers David (three in a row), Dusty Robinson (three in a row), Jae Wiggz (three in a row), and Joe (three in a row), email winners were Sam Robinson (three in a row), Robert Rich (three in a row), and Adrian Finley (three in a row).

-- Torch VIP members could have looked up the answer in the Torch VIP Appendix by searching the Torch back-issue section. Over 1,000 TV reports, Newswires, and columns are available for VIP subscribers.

Be sure to check back in the morning for another installment of Torch Trivia.
