TORCH TRIVIA 1/11: Answer to who won the Raw Rumble on 10-years ago WWE Raw Jan 12, 2009 - 1:15:27 AM
Original question: At the height of the Attitude era, WWE Raw scored a 5.5 overall rating and WCW Nitro scored a 5.0 rating on January 11, 1999. Nitro went with Kevin Nash vs. The Giant (Big Show) as the main event. WWE went with a mini-battle royale as their main event match. Who won that Raw Rumble ten years ago?
(a) Chyna
(b) Vince McMahon
(c) Triple H
(d) Steve Austin
The answer is (a) Chyna. Following a video package of Vince McMahon preparing for the Rumble by punching pieces of meat hanging in a meat market (I just saw a "Family Guy" episode tonight hilariously making light of Sly Stallone in the meat market for "Rocky"), the Raw Rumble main event commenced with Chyna winning the event after Steve Austin distracted Vince, allowing Chyna to eliminate Vince last. Other competitors included Ken Shamrock, Billy "Cute Kip" Gunn, Big Bossman, Test, X-Pac, B.G. "Road Dog" James, Kane, and Triple H.
I'm going with Torch reader Jae Wiggz for a word on the situation at the time. Check out the "original question" link for Dusty Robinson's very great and detailed report from the time period ten years ago. Jae checks in: "This was a huge rivalry between the Corporation and DX. DX did their infamous parody of the Corporation a month prior to this. It was a battle royal for the no. 30 slot in the Rumble - between DX and The Corporation. Chyna came in as the surprise entrant, and endes up winning the match and the 30 slot, but Vince McMahon ended up winning the 1999 Royal Rumble.

They did do a Corporation Parody. They even brought back Jason Sensation
to play Shawn Michaels who was the then commisioner. I recall him literaly
dropping the ball.
