WWE News: CNN and MSNBC add WWE suspensions to on-air new cycle reports today Aug 31, 2007 - 1:07:00 PM
CNN and MSNBC are both characterizing the WWE suspensions during today's newscasts as a cracking down after the Chris Benoit situation.
"WWE is not naming them publicly," said an MSNBC reporter. "In fact, if you are a fan of WWE, trust me, you are going to know every single name on the list."
Both CNN and MSNBC added that more names are expected to come out from pro sports such as the NFL and Major League Baseball.
KELLER'S ANALYSIS: The investigation into Signature Pharmacy, the online distributor of performance enhancing drugs to WWE performers, was going on before the Chris Benoit incident. The authorities in New York working on this story, with Sports Illustrated reporters, may have acted the same way had the Benoit incident not happened. So the cable news characterization of this as WWE cracking down after Benoit isn't really accurate. WWE has the same policy now that they had before Benoit killed his family and himself and haven't upped, as far as we know, its random testing since. To admit to stricter enforcement of the Wellness Policy over the last two months would basically be admitting that it wasn't being strictly enforced before Benoit's actions.
