WWE News: Sports Illustrated writer interviewed on MSNBC (w/Keller's Reax) Aug 31, 2007 - 1:58:00 PM
Sports Illustrated writer Louis Fernando Llosa was a guest on MSNBC. He said investigators are combing through evidence to find out how the pipeline of anti-aging pharmacies operate.
The interviewer asked who was on the list. Llosa said Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were on the list. He also said he found it sad that his nephew has continued to receive steroids and HGH until recently. "There's a disconnect here," he said. "No matter what kind of money they make and how much celebrity and fame they attain, this will kill them."
He said Kurt Angle was on the customer list, but he referenced him as a former Olympc Gold Medalist, not a current pro wrestler.
KELLER'S ANALYSIS: MSNBC continued to completely misconstrue this story in its scripted introduction. The wording of the intro to the story said this is a result of WWE cracking down on steroids since Benoit's death. That is not at all the case. These are two separate, concurrent situations.
Again, the investigation into the anti-aging pharmacy pipelines was ongoing before the Benoit Family Tragedy and WWE suspending these wrestlers is not a result of "cracking down on steroids" because of Benoit. WWE is simply enforcing its Wellness Policy which prohibits purchasing drugs online through a pharmacy. Most of the suspensions aren't even a result fo wrestlers purchasing steroids (testosterone, this this case); instead, it's HGH and other non-steroids that enhance or prevent deterioration of one's phyisque.
I suspect Vince McMahon is fuming mad at the wrestlers for violating that policy, as it's an unwritten code that if you get anything drug-related, you're supposed to use local doctors and not a doctor other wrestlers see. When a huge number of wrestlers all go to the same source, it runs the risk of scandalous headlines as WWE is facing this week.
