WWE Smackdown/ECW TV tapings
September 9, 2007
Minneapolis, Minn. at Target Center
Report by Chris Ketchmark, PWTorch correspondent
Attended the WWE ECW & Smackdown taping at Target center this evening. Here are the results from the show:
DARK MATCHES
(1) Jesse & Festus defeated Two Local Guys. Mostly comedy with Festus doing power moves and Jesse doing a spot where he curled himself into a tucked up ball so his opponent was unable to pin him, just roll him around on the mat.
(2) Jimmy Wayne Yang defeated K.C. James. James played the heel doing a Jarrett? Fargo strut and wearing a Ric Flair type robe which got the crowd riled up. He has a Curt Hennig look to him.
ECW TAPING
Armando Estrada came to the ring and introduced C.M.Punk after a clip of his title win aired on the Video Board. C.M.Punk offered A.A.E. a t-shirt which Estrada refused to wear until C.M.and the crowd pestered him into putting it on over his coat. Elijah Burke interrupted and Challenged Punk to a match at Unforgiven. They jawed back and forth and Punk ended up kicking Burke and sending him scurrying from the ring.
(1) The Miz (w/ Extreme Expose) defeated Tommy Dreamer. Not much to this match. Dreamer got a decent reaction from the crowd.
(2) Matt Stryker (w/ Big Daddy V) defeated Nunzio. Quick squash which saw Big Daddy V destroy Nunzio post match untila video message from Boogeyman challenging Big Daddy V aired.
-Backstage: Balls Mahoney gave Kelly Kelly a Teddy Bear which she accepted hesitantly.
(3) Mike Knox defeated Balls Mahoney. Knox caught Balls with a big boot when Balls was distracted by The Miz who taunted him from the entrance.
-More highlights of the Punk vs. Morrison match aired on the big screen
(4) C.M.Punk & Stevie Richards defeated Kevin Thorn & Eliijah Burke. Stevie sold a beating before hot tagging Punk who hit Thorn with the GTS for the win. Thorn sold the GTS for quite a while post match. Punk and Stevie celebrated their win with a handicapped child seated right in front and to the left of me which was quite nice to see.
SMACKDOWN TAPING
(1) Michelle McCool (w/ Chuck Palumbo) vs. Victoria (w/ Kenny Dykstra). This went to a double DQ due to the men interfering so the ref restarted the match as a mixed tag. McCool and Palumbo won when McCool pinned Victoria.
-Backstage Teddy Long was discussing his wedding plans when a surprise bachelor party started.
Mark Henry snuck into the ring dressed as a druid, disrobed and cut a promo saying he does not fear The Undertaker and can also do hocus pocus. The promo was interrupted by a Taker video and a Taker Symbol which lower from the ceiling, exploded and burst into flames. Takers voice played over the PA system saying Henry would rest in peace at Unforgiven.
-Backstage Matt Hardy and MVP were playing chess. MVP "sneezed" on the board knocking the pieces off just when Matt had him checked. Hardy told MVP he had a match set up for him against Domino tonight. MVP said he wasn't ready.
(2) Shannon Moore defeated Jamie Noble. Noble was looking for Hornswoggle under the ring before the match. Moore tricked him into thinking he had found Hornswoggle and rolled Noble up for the win when Jamie looked over the ropes.
-Backstage Krystal and Vickie Guerrero were discussing the wedding when a surprise bridal shower started.
- MVP was informed he had to wrestle in street clothes "next".
(3) Domino (w/ Deuce and Cherry) defeated MVP (w/ Matt Hardy). Matt tried to start MVP chants but the crowd would answer "sucks" after each attempt. Hardy kept Deuce from interfering on the apron which distracted MVP who was cradled by Domino for the pin.
-More bridal shower with Big Dick Johnson popping out of a box to dance for the gals.
-Great Khali promo warning Batista and Rey Misterio about his vice hold.
(4) Belfast Brawl Match, no DQ: Finlay defeated Kane. Best match of the night. Very good brawl, which was very stiff. They fought at ringside and used the announce table, the ring steps, a chair, two Shillelaghs, exposed turnbuckle, exposed barrier and posts. The end saw Finlay hit Kane in the gut with a chair followed by his finisher when Kane missed hitting Finlay with the ring steps.
-Backstage Krystal and Teddy Long met in the hallway and were beginning to argue about their attire. Teddy was in his boxers and a tie, Krystal was in a nightie when they were joined by all the guests in the hallway. Ron Simmons walked in and we had a momentary Doom reunion as Butch Reed was also there. Ron said his catch phrase and the party resumed.
-Hornswoggle appeared from under the ring and attacked Michael Cole at the announce table before scurrying off to the back to a pop from the crowd.
(5) Batista defeated Great Khali by DQ in a World Title Match. Khali wouldn't break the vice hold so the ref DQ'd him. It took several referees to get him to stop and Batista sold the move twitching in the ring after it was released. Batista was helped from the ring and was checked on by Cole and JBL. Just before he got to the back, Batista gathered himself and walked to the rest of the way out to cheers. Notes from the show: The entire upper deck at target Center was empty with black tarp and curtains covering the seats. The lower bowl was about ninety percent full so it should come off well on television. This was a scheduling mistake by WWE as you had a home Vikings game the same day and it was a school night. The taping did not get over until 11:00 pm central time with matches starting at 7:40 pm.
QUICK TIPS FOR SENDING RESULTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults07" (@pwtorch. com).
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the "&" symbol as opposed to stating "and. " Reserve use of " and" when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. " Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match" ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
