WWE News: Batista speaks about lesbian mother, Lesnar's first UFC opponent, USA-WWE ratings Nov 7, 2007 - 5:23:08 PM
-Former WWE headliner Brock Lesnar's first UFC fight will be against UFC heavyweight veteran Frank Mir. The fight takes place on pay-per-view on Feb. 2. In his blog at MMATorch.com, Jerry Cattelane writes: "There is no question that Lesnar has entered the deep end of the pool and that the talent development really thinks he has what it takes to be a contender. I didn't think there would be any shame in letting Lesnar fight a no-name, but in 2007, I guess the thought of getting the name fights in early is a good strategy. On paper, this doesn't look like a bad matchup at all. It'll be interesting to see what Lesnar brings to the cage. It's a little early for me to think about the winner, but my gut has me really leaning towards Lesnar." Article Link
-Media Week touts Raw as the reason behind USA Network's no. 2 finish behind ESPN last week as the cable ratings leader. Excerpt: "On the strength of its Monday night WWE Raw franchise, USA Network took second on the week, averaging 2.59 million viewers, while taking the silver among 18-49s (1.26 million) and 25-54s (1.23 million). The net finished just behind TBS in the 18-34 demo, averaging 593,000 to the Turner property’s 599,000. Raw averaged 4.87 million viewers between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., and notched its best demo number with adults 18-34, with 2.51 million." Article Link [Thanks to PWTorch.com reader Robert Taylor]
-Batista is interviewed in The Advocate speaking about how his mother being a lesbain affected him growing up. Excerpt: "I don’t really remember my mom not having girlfriends. I never really thought about it. I don’t think I was really aware then. It’s not like my mom was making out with girls in front of us. [Chuckles] She just had her girlfriends around, and that’s how she referred to them—she called her girlfriends “girlfriends.” Even my dad—I don’t think I really ever noticed my dad that much either. I don’t have any strong recollection of him being with us for any long period of time ... That is only a very small part of who my mom is. It’s not like it was some dirty secret I had to hide, and I think a lot of that comes from my her. She was never secretive about it. She never made us feel it was something to be ashamed of. I think the most important message about my mom is not that she’s a lesbian but that she’s a single mother who struggled to keep her three kids safe and alive, off the streets and out of prison, to keep food on the table. Those are the messages I wanted to convey, not who she was in a relationship with at the time." He also said there is zero tolerance for any kind of discrminatiion in the WWE locker room.
