WWE Smackdown taping
November 6, 2007
Bakersfield, Calif.
Report by Steve Maddux, PWTorch VIP member
DARK MATCH
(1) Charles Evans over Chavo Guerrero via small package. Evans looks green and really out of shape.
ECW then took place, follow by...
SMACKDOWN TAPING
(1) The Major Brothers won a Tag Team Battle Royal also featuring Deuce & Domino, Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang, Drew Mcintyre & Dave Taylor, and Jesse & Festus to earn a shot at tag titles later tonight.
Rather boring match, lost crowd in the middle, nobody cares about the Major Brothers
Backstage segment with Kenny Dykstra/Victoria approaching Chuck Palumbo/Michelle Mccool over upcoming match
(2) Victora (w/Kenny Dykstra) defeated Michelle Mccool (w/Chuck Palumbo) with a DDT. Michelle tried hard in this match but she looked a little slow and uncordinated(at least shes trying to get better ala Candice Michelle). Very fast match Finishing DDT Victoria gave her looked very weak.
Backstage segment with Vickie Guerrero telling CM Punk how happy she is to have him on Smackdown tonight, Jamie Noble interupts starts arguing with Punk Vickie makes match for later
Backstage interview segment with Rey Mysterio
(3) Finlay defeated Rey Mysterio via Death Valley Driver. Very good match. Crowd is furious whenn Finlay pins Rey. Good back and forth match with some near falls. Finlay wins clean when he runs into the rope and knocks Rey down as he is attepmting a West Coast Pop, Finlay follows up with DVD for win. Afterwards Finlay hits Rey acrosswith a laptop computer that was at the announce table, then he picks up Rey like a baby and tosses him torso first into the ringpost. Very effective postmatch beatdown as Finlay gained major heat with the crowd which was mostly hispanic and very into Mysterio. A couple of fans even started throwing stuff at Finlay but security quickly stopped it. Finlay drew the biggest heat of the night by far. Happy that Finlay one, added some suspense to the feud and shocked everyone
Batista comes out and cuts a promo saying he is in the best shape of his career and is putting his body, life and title on the line at Survivor Series. Also says he will take out Mark Henry next Friday when the go head to head
(4) C.M. Punk defeated Jamie Noble via DQ when The Miz interferes. Short match, was looking forward to these two having a good match as they had some good ones in ROH together. Right when match begins to kick into second gear The Miz interferes, then Morrison. CM Punk beats them both up then gets caught by Noble with a gutbuster. Punk was very over tonight.
(5) Matt Hardy & MVP defeated The Major Brothers via Playmaker. Before the match Hardy and MVP were midring arguing presumibly over Hardy being ok to compete after his head laceration injury. Matt was in for a few, did a bulldog, side effect and second rope elbow. MVP quickly tags himself back in and pins on of The Majors after a Playmaker. Looked like WWE was trying to protect Hardys injury as he was in the match very briefly and didn't take any head bumps. MVP and Matt bicker after the match.
(6) Undertaker defeated The Great Khali in a No Holds Barred Match via tapout with a Triange Choke. Pretty short and bad match. Some brawling around ringside but Khali looked bad and couldn't do much of anything. Short and relativly painless. Khali is nothing but a very large jobber these days, maybe not the most effective way to be using him.
After show goes of the air JBL comes in the ring and starts badmothing Taker. JBL attacks him and Taker gives him a weak chokeslam. Crowd statrs chanting Tombstone but before Taker can do it his music starts playing and lights come down. Taker motions to the back to bring the lights back up and cut the music. Lights come back up and Taker gives JBL the Tombstone. Taker gets on the mic and says Batista is next then exits. After Taker exits, JBL gets on the mike and clowns on the latino crowd.
NOTES: Only good thing on the show was the Mysterio/Finlay match, everything else didn't really work and was very bland. Rey/Finlay was worth price of addmission though. Crowd was a very markish crowd with a lot of kids who were there to see Rey, Taker and Batista. The polar opposite of last nights very sophisticated celebrity-heavy LA crowd.
QUICK TIPS FOR SENDING RESULTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults07" (@pwtorch. com).
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the "&" symbol as opposed to stating "and. " Reserve use of " and" when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. " Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match" ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
Send feedback on this article to pwtorch@gmail.com and we'll regularly publish reader feedback in the "Torch Feedback" category on the Main Listing.
