WWE Raw Reax #1: "At least we know that Jericho will be coming back next week." Nov 13, 2007 - 5:40:37 PM
Adam Reifman of New York, N.Y. (6.5): Best Match: Triple H vs. Umaga. Worst Match: Divas. Honorable Mention: Hornswoggle training session. Let me start by saying that this was an extremely entertaining Raw, with solid matches and segments throughout leading to Survivor Series. They're kind of overloading all of these tag matchups all over Raw and ECW. We're going to see them on Sunday; why would you want to show them over and over again before that? Santino was good as usual. I loved the Hornswoggle segment. William Regal was perfect, and I laughed out loud when I saw Coachman as Khali. Just a great idea, since they kinda resemble each other body-type wise, it made me laugh even more. So apparently the SAVE_US robot got impatient with the codes and mysteries, gave up and just told us it was gonna be next Monday (along with a prominent Y and J). Then Triple H basically gives a speech right out of the Beowulf trailer, only to be followed immediately by... a Beowulf trailer! Part of me thinks that's WWE's way of poking fun at itself in a very subtle way, and it's great to see. The main event was going to be a good, long match no matter what, but it was just so cluttered with the same people we keep on seeing on every show. Also, quite a lame ending. Not only was it a cop out, but they rushed it to boot. Gotta end the big show better than that before a big PPV. Michaels-Orton needs a bit higher billing, but good, entertaining show otherwise.
Kevin Wang of Dallas, Tex. - PWTorch VIP member (4.5): Best Match: Inter-Brand Six-man tag. Worst Match: Hornswoggle Training Session. Positive: At least we know that Jericho will be coming back next week. They might as well have put up a graphic: "Y2J will be on Raw next Monday!" My biggest complaint has to be with the continued parody of Runjin Singh as having a stereotypical Indian accent. The man speaks English like an American. I suppose simply not looking Caucasian is reason enough to make fun of him? Last week it was Triple H, this week it was a generic flunky, speaking with an exaggerated caricature of an accent. The flunky, however, saw fit to throw in more than just an accent, going with an insensitive Middle Eastern flourish, too. Hey, WWE, Indians aren't Arabs. This sort of thing has to stop. There are plenty of ways to take digs at Singh and Khali without stooping to this level.
Brian J. Adkins of King, N.C. (8.0): Best Match: Hardys/Mysterio vs. M.V.P./Kennedy/Finlay. Worst Match: Hornswaggle's training session. This was a very entertaining show. I enjoyed the crossover with Smackdown ,and a little ECW, talent and the hype promoting Sunday's Survivor Series PPV. Taker and Batista teaming together continued to tease tension before their big Cell match. It was interesting to see Matt Hardy and M.V.P. on opposite sides and how they continue to try to work around their "friendly" rivalry. The Divas six-woman match had good energy and they continue to do a good job building up Beth Phoenix as a no-nonsense Women's Champion. It was good to see Umaga get in most of the offense in his match against Triple H even though the match ended in a predictable fashion with everyone in a messy brawl. Shawn Michaels seemed to carry the "face-off" interview segment and did so very well. Vince McMahon's presence was thankfully kept to a bare minimum. Santino Marella is funny most of the time, but why did he lose to Jerry Lawler? Some complain about young guys losing to stars from the '90's, what about one losing to a guy who is basically retired and his prime was in the '70s?! Snitsky is not over with the crowd and using this gimmick never will be. Hornswoggle's training session should have been edited to some very brief clips. It will be fun to see Chris Jericho's appearance and the crowd's reaction next week.
