Flair Angle News: McMahon explains motivation behind the ultimatum of "one loss and you're done." Nov 30, 2007 - 3:18:58 PM
One aspect of the angle on Raw this week with Ric Flair and Vince McMahon that drew criticism was Vince McMahon's somewhat arbitrary decision - or so it seemed - to tell Flair if he lost one more match, he'd have to retire.
WWE.com addressed that storyline mystery with an article featuring comments from Mr. McMahon: "I'm legitimately concerned about the wellbeing and health of Ric Flair. Ric Flair's fate is in my hands. If he gets hurt, it's on my watch. He's well past his prime. We all know that. If he gets hurt what will people say? ‘That damn McMahon forced him to compete because all he cares about is making a buck for his business'... My reasoning was twofold. I'm genuinely concerned about Ric Flair, but I'm also genuinely concerned about my business. Over the years I've allowed too many people to go out on their terms when they were well past their prime and had no business being in the ring... I'm the Chairman of this company. People are going to start going out when I say they'll go out. That's how it's going to be from here on out."
WK ANALYSIS: Although it's just a storyline-based article, it's nice to see WWE address something that called out for an explanation after Monday's show. McMahon probably would have been better off explaining that during his initial promo, but in the big scheme of the angle, it's not a deal-breaker. You have to wonder if Vince was taking a dig at anyone in particular when he said he's allowed too many others to go out on their terms when they were past their prime. Perhaps Hulk Hogan? Who else could he be referencing?
