BENOIT News: New details surface in police report on build-up to Benoit family tragedy Feb 12, 2008 - 5:18:35 PM
TheCitizen.com has a story on new information found in the Fayette (Ga.) county report from earlier today that officially closed the investigation into the Benoit family tragedy. The new information centers on a friend of Nancy Benoit's, Pam Clark, who told detectives about Nancy's safety deposit box with records of everything Chris had "ever done to her".
Detective Ethon Harper took Clark's testimony on the rocky relationship between Chris and Nancy, with details that were revealed in the investigative report. The report says Nancy told Clark that she “was concerned that Chris may be having an affair with one of the divas in the WWE” and she was upset that Chris “had been getting phone calls and would go outside to talk” and then avoid questions about the conversations.
Clark told Harper that Nancy had hinted she was planning to leave Chris and stay with her parents in Florida. The Benoits would often stay on hotels after arguments to cool down. A neighbor of the Benoits, Nancy Schrepfer, told detectives that Nancy Benoit told her she was "afraid to go home after Chris slammed her against the wall."
The neighbor also reported that Nancy said she found a stash of steroids in the home and disposed of it, which “created a serious problem between Nancy and Chris.” Schrepfer told detectives that Nancy abused alcohol and prescription drugs “to help cope with her relationship with Chris and the demands of his career.”
The report also includes information from Nancy’s sister, Sandra Toffoloni, who said that she knew Nancy had taken and hidden several types of drugs from Chris in the past, and Nancy called it Chris’s “stash." “Sandra said Nancy told her that would piss Chris off to no end,” the report said.
From the article: Several witnesses also reported that Nancy Benoit was upset at her husband over his maintaining an insurance policy for his two older children from another marriage with his ex-wife listed as the beneficiary. They said Nancy Benoit considered such an insult and wanted the policy changed to list her as a beneficiary.
