WWE News: AP reports on Mayweather vs. Big Show story - Mayweather receiving $20 million Feb 25, 2008 - 6:46:03 PM
The AP has published a report this evening on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show match for WrestleMania that was confirmed at today's WrestleMania press conference in Los Angeles. The report described the events today as "a chaotic Staples Center event that masqueraded as a news conference."
Mayweather is quoted in the story about wanting to pick up quick, fast money for his involvement at WrestleMania. "Wrestling takes care of business right on the spot," he said. "Whatever they say they're going to do, they do it right on the spot. There's no waiting three, four, five months. Quick results, quick money. Quick big money, too."
Shane McMahon and Mayweather's agent, Leonard Ellerbee, confirmed to the AP that Mayweather is picking up an eight-figure payday. Forbes reported on Monday night that it's $20 million.
Ellerbee talks to the AP about continuing to push Mayweather as a crossover star, with this being another big opportunity for Mayweather to increase his name recognition.
"Either I'm going to be a genius with this or I'm the biggest idiot," he said. "Boxers have such a short window of opportunity. He can't become any bigger in boxing."
