WWE News: WWE Films signs distribution deal with Fox for future movie releases Feb 25, 2008 - 10:33:45 PM
Variety is reporting that WWE's Films division has signed a multi-year deal with 20th Century Fox to distribute future WWE movies in theaters and straight-to-DVD projects.
The report says WWE plans to distribute at least one movie in theaters and four DVD-releases annually. Fox would receive a portion of the proceeds for securing distribution in theaters and major retailers.
Part of the new vision for WWE Films is to focus on movies with a PG-13 rating, as opposed to the R-rating for "See No Evil" and "The Condemned." WWE recognized where their audience is, and WWE Films's Michael Lake told Variety, "We had to refocus where we wanted to go. There's a strong audience base that is ready for movies that star our guys. A lot of our audience is in the PG-13 area."
Lake said the idea is to focus more on crossing over WWE stars while having a distribution partner secured for future releases. "We've got to establish these guys (WWE stars) not to our audience so much but to the other moviegoing audience, so that they cross over."
