WWE News: An ECW original released, Backlash title change given away ahead, Regal Raw hype Apr 28, 2008 - 1:29:16 PM
-Comcast's cable guide plugged Raw all weekend with the following line: "Results from Backlash; the new WWE Champion." It's less of a give-away when there are three challengers going into a match, but for those who saw that, it was a bit of a spoiler. [Thanks to PWTorch.com reader B.C.]
-WWE.com is hyping William Regal will be officially coronated on Raw tonight. A hint of a Triple H vs. Regal feud could take place if the two ceremonies for the new champ and the new king get in each other's way. Hunter and Regal are friends, and Hunter could use his pull to give Regal a main event elevation and feud.
-Balls Mahoney of ECW has been released, as just announced at WWE.com.
Keller's Analysis: The release of Balls Mahoney is just another indication that WWE has given up any attempts to link to the original ECW. That said, he hadn't been used regularly lately, and his TV appearances were usually to do jobs, so it's probably better off that his memory as an ECW star, such as it is, doesn't get further besmirched with him jobbing on TV anymore. He can cash in his Sci-Fi exposure on the indy scene now.
