WWE News: John Cena interviewed on criticism of The Rock, finishing "12 Rounds" movie, and returning to full-time schedule May 17, 2008 - 4:09:06 PM
The Sun in the U.K. recently published an interview with John Cena to catch up on his return to full-time WWE work after completing the "12 Rounds" movie. Cena said filming of the movie was completed on Tuesday, which will allow him to return to a regular schedule of live event touring.
"Towards the end of the movie, I was really getting frustrated," Cena said. "This film schedule we had meant I could only come back for TV and PPV shows, so I felt the rug had been pulled out from under me. Only on this week’s Raw, did I really feel that I was properly back."
Cena also commented on movies as it relates to The Rock. His negative comments toward Dwayne Johnson several months ago led to Johnson's "receipt" at WrestleMania. Cena said he had no problem with it.
"Rock is the ultimate entertainer and I most certainly deserved it," he said of Johnson's comments at the Hall of Fame ceremony. "If Rock wanted to stand out there for two hours and make fun of me, he could do that. As long as he’s there. I just wish he would come by more often."
This led to Cena reiterating his criticism of Johnson for what he perceives as Johnson being two-faced. "It’s hard when people give the impression of 'this is the greatest gig in the world' and then jump ship to movies," he said. "Now I have every interviewer asking me when I’m leaving WWE for films. And the answer is I’m never doing that, because I love wrestling more than I do movies."
Cena also details what led to his surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble after telling people he would be out of wrestling past WrestleMania. "There were probably two people in that ring that knew I was going to be there," he said. "I did get a lot of joy out of the surprise, as there are a lot of fans whose main goal is to see what happens before it happens."
The interview also details his thoughts on WrestleMania, the Judgment Day PPV on Sunday, and John Morrison needing to step up to the plate and realize his potential.
