Ratings News: Draft and Final Money Giveaway draws big resurgence in Raw viewership (w/Keller's Analysis) Jun 25, 2008 - 11:13:33 AM
Monday night's three-hour draft special drew a 3.7 rating (in the usual two-hour slot), up from last week's edition of Raw drew a 3.3 rating, which was up from the 3.0 rating the week before.
The overall rating was actually a not-so-shabby 3.4, as the first hour drew a 2.78, the second hour a 3.46, and the third a 3.95. Average viewership was 5.3 million.
Keller's Analysis: We'll never know how much of that ratings surge was due to the money giveaway or the tri-branded draft. Probably a combination of both. Where did these viewers come from? How did they learn that was having a draft or giving away money if they weren't watching Raw two or three weeks ago? The answer seems to be that people who had been watching once every two or three weeks and watched one of the last few weeks liked what they saw or were intrigued with what was coming up and made more of a point to tune in on Monday. The question is whether the reshuffling of the roster and the McMahon cliffhanger angle at the end of the show will lure them back next week. It's the day after a PPV with all of the titles on the line, so there is a hook there, plus WWE is intentionally not doing any follow-up to the McMahon angle until Raw on Monday. I think they've done a stellar job rebuilding interest in a dull, listless Raw since WrestleMania and will be rewarded with a 3.5 or better next week, well above that 3.0 mark they had been settling into a month ago.
