WWE SummerSlam HOLT report
Indianapolis, Ind.
August 17, 2008
Report by Joseph Cooley, PWTorch.com correspondent
I went to SummerSlam last night so here are a just a few thoughts from inside the arena, I am curious to how the show came off on TV because in person it was pretty good, except for the ECW match (which I was in the bathroom for). The set was cool looking with the movie theater listing of each match.
Dark Match: Big Show beats Bam Neely. Standard match to get the crowd warmed up. Wow, Big Show is huge in person and the live crowd loves him
After that Lilian sings the National Anthem and wow. She is hot in person. TV does not do her justice.
MVP beats Jeff Hardy. Hardy gets a huge response, but it is worth noting MVP has his fans, at least here, but I noticed a trend that the more the kids cheered the faces, a segment of the older guys booed and that lasted all night
Beth & Santino beats Mickie & Kofi. A fun match Santino is great and Kofi is impressive in person
The Shawn Michaels-Chris Jericho segment was good. My only complaint is the crowd wants to chant while they were talking in the ring, so you coudn't hear everything that they were saying which took some of the impact away because of the great mic work those two have been doing. The punch on the wife didn't look stiff, but they showed a reply that looked like something connected because she seemed to have some swelling (or really pouty lips).
ECW Title match. I missed the entire thing because after the intros I ran to the bathroom and before I could get to the bathroom it was over, but from what people said I didn't miss much
World Title. C.M. Punk beats JBL. Decent match, Punk was over with our crowd and they got behind him as the match went on (a funny note my sister was totally grossed out by JBL's flab). Funny thing - and I am not sure if this was noted on TV - was when JBL tossed his hat after is intro, he threw it right at Jim Ross who got pissed and threw it right back at him. That got a pop from the crowd
WWE Title: Triple H beats Khali. Okay for what it was. I wasn't expecting much. Khali is huge in person and Triple H has a presence in person that makes it tough not to enjoy, especially his intro.
Batista beats Cena: Good match. I was surprised by the clean pin because I was expecting Randy Orton to get involved. I think Cena is due for a heel turn because he is losing the crowd. He has his fans, but Batista got a much stronger cheer than Cena got.
Hell in A Cell: Undertaker beats Edge. Wow, this match was a sight to see in person. Edge is just great right now and Taker ain't too bad himself. The spot when the cage broke was done well, even though it buckled before they broke through so that added to the impact. Overall, a great match that drew some "this is awesome" chants from the crowd. I missed the final fire spot because I thought Taker was done and the place was packed so I headed out to beat the traffic (the line before the doors opened was at least a block or two down the road it wasnt this packed last March for a Raw taping), but overall it was a good show to see live.
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to pwtorch@gmail.com.
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
