Ratings News: Raw ratings way down below 3.0 up against Democratic Convention (w/Keller's Analysis) Aug 26, 2008 - 4:21:04 PM
The Aug. 25 edition of Raw drew a mere 2.84 rating with 4.1 million viewers. That's a major drop and one of the lowest non-holiday ratings for Raw in more than a decade.
Keller's Analysis: Last night's preseason football game featured two smaller market teams - Seattle and San Diego, so that's not a top candidate to blame. Is there that much interested in Michelle Obama's speech viewers turned out in droves to watch her? Good for them if they did, but it's a sign that WWE's viewership - while significant - is soft and will turn away at the slightest hint of something else tempting. The move to Sci-Fi obviously hurt. I didn't check to see how often USA was plugging that Raw was on Sci-Fi instead. That doesn't bode well for Raw's ratings up against first-run network programming this fall, including marquee, meaningful Monday Night Football games. The number for the USA Network replay at 11 p.m. or so should be interesting to see once we get that info.
