WWE Smackdown/ECW TV taping
December 16, 2008
Baltimore, Md. at 1st Mariner Arena
Report by Madison, PWTorch.com correspondent

I just returned from the Smackdown/ECW show. The arena was about three-fourths full. Two sides of the top tier was sectioned off. Crowd was hot all night and I just wanna say that Smackdown is awesome live. Much different atmosphere from Raw and more exciting as well.

SMACKDOWN TAPING

Smackdown begins with new WWE Champion Jeff Hardy. He comes out to an enormous pop. There's so much confetti in the arena, you couldn't see the ring. Huge pyro display as well. Edge ruins the party and tells Jeff that it take longer than two days to prove yourself as a champion. Edge announces two main events. One being Matt Hardy vs himself and Jeff Hardy vs Vladimir Kozlov. Jeff asks if Edge is done and he hits the Twist of Fate.

(1) Hurricane Helms & R-Truth defeated Shelton Benjamin and MVP. Huge pop for Truth. The match is pretty good. Shelton refuses to tag MVP in throughout the match. In the end MVP mis-stepped and kicked Shelton in the back of the head. Helms pins Shelton with his finisher.

Edge is backstage crying to Vickie about wanting to hurt Edge. She tells him to be patient.

(2) John Morrison (w/ The Miz) defeated Festus (w/Jesse). Festus is the aggressor for most of the match. Before the match Jesse attacks Miz and they battle again toward the end. Jesse swings the bell at Miz but missed and it hits the ringpost. The impact of the bell on the steel sends Festus into his trance. Morrison picks up the win after The Moonlight Drive.

Backstage Eve interviews ECW Champion Matt Hardy. Hardy just talks a but about Edge and how he's going to beat him.

(3) Edge defeated Matt Hardy. This match is very solid. Matt Hardy is over heavily. Alot of back and forth action. A little slow in the beginning but picks up when it needs to. Hardy gained many nears falls hitting his signature moves. He missed a Twist of Fate and Edge throws him shoulder first into the ringpost. Matt walks into a Spear.

(4) Ezekiel Jackson (w/Brian Kendrick) defeated Carlito (w/Primo). Zeek is a manster to Carlito. He dominated the most of the match and Kendrick tried to get involved on occasion. In the end Zeek wins with his standing Rock Bottom.

Backstage: Mr. Kennedy does a promo with MVP

Backstage: The Great Khali stands with Singh. He tells the people that last Sunday at Armageddon, The Great Khali loved kissing Mae Young. He says that he has found his soulmate.

(5) Maryse defeated Maria. The winner of this contest gets a future Divas Championship shot. Maria comes out to a huge pop. McCool is ringside and also gets a good pop. Maryse wins after she ducks a crossbody. Maria hits the mat hard and Maryse drops her with a DDT. After the match Maryse walks up to McCool. She's shoved backward before she just backs off.

(6) Vladimir Kozlov wrestled Jeff Hardy to a no contest. This match is similar to the other match between them. Vladimir takes control for most of the match but, Jeff is able to hold him own. It's not long before Edge runs down to the ring and attacks Jeff. The bell rings as Edge and Kozlov attack Jeff. Triple H runs down to a huge pop and clears the ring. Pedigree on Edge, and Kozlov runs after he sees the sledgehammer. Game and Hardy stare off as the fans go bonkers for Hardy.

DARK MATCH

(1) The Undertaker defeated The Big Show in a Steel Cage Match. Good to see Taker again. Hes advertised as the main event whenever Smackdown comes here. The match itself was typical Taker vs Show. Nothing really special but people were into it. Everybody started to leave after Smackdown as Jeff celebrated in the ring. They started rushing back in once they brought the cage out.

Overall: Awesome show imo. Show went smoothly and kept everyone occupied and focused. Edge is an awesome heel and Hardy should be way over working with him.

Biggest Pop:
1. Jeff Hardy
2. The Undertaker
3. Matt Hardy
4. Triple H
5. R-Truth

Biggest Heel
1. Edge
2. Kozlov
3. Show
