WWE and TNA are receiving unexpected press this weekend after congressman Henry Waxman published his letter to the Office of National Drug Control recommending further investigation of steroids in pro wrestling.

Waxman's recommendation was based on his interviews with key players from WWE and TNA, including Vince and Stephanie McMahon, and Dixie Carter from TNA.

The AP picked up the story and Yahoo published the key elements from Waxman's letter and headlined: "Congressman: Steroids still plague pro wrestling."

An additional quote to add to our initial breaking news report that you found exclusively on PWTorch.com comes in the AP report about a lack of transparency in WWE and TNA's drug testing policies that spurned Mr. Waxman's letter.

"Since the committee began its investigation last year, both the WWE and the TNA have made efforts to improve their steroid testing programs," Waxman said. "But these efforts suffer from a lack of independence and transparency. As a result of these weaknesses, the organizations appear unable to effectively prevent the use of steroids and other illegal drugs by professional wrestlers."

The AP report also includes Mr. Waxman's statement that over 3.0 million youths watch wrestling and the industry sends the wrong message to kids.

Considering WWE CEO Linda McMahon's recent comments about the company targeting kids with a "cradle to the grave" marketing strategy, WWE might want to be more careful on how they present their kids marketing strategy when due diligence on sending the right messages to children watching on TV is often over-looked in favor of another vile Triple H promo.
