In May 1999, Owen Hart died when a stunt went wrong live on WWE PPV. Ten years later, Owen's widow, Martha Hart, is reflective on how recent, but also distant the tragedy feels to her.

"It's interesting because in some ways it feels like such a short period of time," Martha said in an interview with the Calgary Sun. "In other ways, it feels like it was a lifetime ago."

The strange feelings of distance, but closeness to the events have kept her very focused on living day-to-day. "I just had to worry about what's right in front of me right now," Martha said.

Martha was awarded $18 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against WWE, which split the Hart family apart because some family members thought it would cost them jobs in WWE. Martha says she's not fazed by the criticism.

"You cannot only survive, you can thrive," she said. "Life can be very unpredictable. Certainly for me, and for Owen, we had this amazing life planned together."

While alive, Owen started a family with Martha, who is a single mom for their son and a daughter. A video on the Calgary Sun shows the family together and the son, Oje, jumps off the screen as looking exactly like Owen.

Using money from the wrongful death suit, Martha started a foundation to remember Owen. The intent is to remember Owen and also provide opportunities for people to pursue education or career goals.

"The paramount cause and reason was to have this amazing legacy for Owen and to reflect the type of person he was, the kindness he exuded," Martha said. "The hardest thing about losing him was it was so sudden ... you have all this love still, and you don't know what to do with it. It's helped me as much as it's helped the people who ended up being the recipients of the foundation."
