Legendary WWE star Ted DiBiase says one of the key reasons Vince McMahon pushed for the current Wellness Policy was for business purposes to avoid news of more premature deaths in the wrestling business.

DiBiase didn't mention Andrew "Test" Martin's death over the weekend in a radio interview on KNBR in San Francisco yesterday, but that would be an example of McMahon trying to avoid disturbing news about his current wrestlers.

DiBiase said on KNBR that one of McMahon's main fears is getting a call letting him know that another one of his wrestlers is dead or that another wrestler has torn up a hotel room. He said that is one of the main reasons the Wellness Policy is in effect.

Torch reader Adam Nagy sent in more highlights from DiBiase's interview on KNBR.

-- Steroids were brought up. When asked if they were prevalent he said yes because back in the early '80s they weren't illegal. He said people used them for the look and for the recovery aspects. DiBiase said he dabbled in them, but was always asking questions to the doctors. He stopped when a doctor said that there is a chance that if he was born with something like cancer or any issues in his body that were dormant, the steroids could cause them to grow too. The host said he admired his honesty.

-- DiBiase said that he was recently at a Raw event and Vince was talking to him about his son, Ted, Jr. Vince said that he has a bright future in this business. According to DiBiase, Vince went on to say that what he admired most about Junior was his character.

-- The last topic was about "crotch grabbing" and "suck it" the industry went through during the Attitude era. The host then suggested Vince reluctantly put a PG-13 rating on it. Ted said that he doesn't think it was reluctant, as he believes that Vince went that direction to survive the Monday Night Wars.

When asked about being in the industry, he said that a few years ago when he was backstage as an agent (as opposed to now where he's still on the payroll as an ambassador), he told them that he had spoken out at times about the more mature direction the industry had gone and they said that it was fine that he was entitled to his own opinion.

He said to look at the top grossing movies now and most of them are all animated kid movies and that Disney World is still one of the top attractions in the country. He continued that Vince isn't dumb, and if you look at the product over the last few months, it's gone totally PG.

-- When Jake "the Snake" Roberts was mentioned, the host asked if Ted had seen "Beyond the Mat." He said he has repeated the common statement that Jake was one of the best wrestlers to have ever wrestled and that if he could have controlled his demons, he would be in a creative position at this point.

This also led DiBiase talking about "The Wrestler." He said he saw it alone and when he came home his wife asked what he thought. He said that if their friends saw the movie, they would ask why the DiBiases had ever let their kids get involved in wrestling. He said it's a film that shows what can happen if people make the wrong decisions.
