WWE star John Cena wants to stay in WWE long-term instead of pursuing only movies because of his lofty goals to help grow the wrestling business like Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and The Rock did before him.

"When I got into the business, my goal was to make the business bigger," Cena recently said on "Life After Film School" on Fox Movie Channel. "Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Dwayne Johnson made the business bigger. I will do whatever I can to possibly make this business bigger."

Cena has fought through two major injuries inside the ring the past two years that could have set him back. He also could have damaged his goals filming "The Marine" when he vowed to do his own stunts.

"In 'The Marine,' I did all of my own stuff," he said. "A lot of that was out of ignorance, but I was proud of doing my own stuff."

Prior to filming "12 Rounds," Cena said WWE management put his career in the right perspective on looking after the business aspect of being a pro wrestler; that it would be unnecessary to take too many risks that could jeopardize his wrestling career when professional stuntmen are available to step in when needed.

Caldwell's Analysis: John Cena has certainly contributed to the business growing significantly in terms of TV ratings and merchandise. The jump in TV ratings when Cena returned at the Survivor Series in November 2008 was directly attributed to Cena. There just hasn't been a "boom period" increase in business such as Hogan leading Rock 'n Wrestling 25 years ago and Austin & The Rock leading the boom period during the Attitude era ten+ years ago.

There simply hasn't been enough time in between the Attitude era and now for Cena to lead a major resurgence. The TV format is the same. Many of the top wrestlers (Hunter, Undertaker, and Michaels) besides Cena are exactly the same. There hasn't been enough breathing room, but if Cena sticks around long enough and can lead a resurgence with a new TV format or way of presenting pro wrestling content, he could follow Hogan, Austin, and Rock in growing the business, as he's set out to do.

TORCH READERS: Debate below! Has John Cena helped grow the wrestling business or will another boom period come during Cena's lifetime as a WWE star? ... Also, I promise this is the last of the Cena on FMC interview recap stories.
