WWE Smackdown TV taping report
June 30, 2009
Fresno, Calif.
Report by Bobby Aparicio of Selma, Calif., PWTorch.com reader

Superstars taping for July 2 episode

(1) Edge beat World Hvt. C.M. Punk by forfeit. The match was going good - they were going back and forth - until Punk said Edge poked him in the eye. Due to that, Punk forfeited the match, making Edge the winner. Josh Matthews gets in the ring to interview Punk, saying if this were a title match, he would have forfeited the title. Punk replied that he has never taken the easy way out and claimed he had an injured eye.

Smackdown TV taping for July 3 episode

(1) Finlay beat Ricky Ortiz. Not even a match. It was dominated by Finlay and he got the easy one, two, three.

-- They showed a video from the back in which Dolph Ziggler was warming up for his match. Maria showed up and said she had a great time from the night before and they should go out again soon. He agreed and Maria wished him good luck on his match.

(2) Dolph Ziggler beat R-Truth. Good match. Truth almost came out with the win, but Ziggler pulls out the win.

(3) Kane beat Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio in a non-title match. The next match was a great match, which had Rey and Kane going back and forth. Rey gets Kane in the 619. He attempts to finish it, but Kane catches Rey in a chokeslam for the pin. After the match, Kane tries to chokeslam Rey again, but Great Khali's music hits and he comes to the ring with a chair in hand. Kane runs into the crowd to escape the wrath of Khali.

-- They went to an interview in the back with Chris Jericho and Edge to talk about the match with Hardy and Punk. They end up saying Hardy and Punk are dysfunctional and not a team like they are and claim to be the best in the business.

(4) Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspar & JTG) beat Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith). Good match. Shad gets the win for Crime Tyme over David Hart Smith.

(5) Women's champion Michelle McCool & Layla beat Maria & Melina. It wasn't even a match with Melina scoring the pin on Layla while McCool looked on without even attempting to help her partner.

-- They went to a video in back with John Morrison watching his win over Punk from a week before with teddy long. He tells him he should fight the winner of the Punk-Hardy match after Night of Champions. Long says maybe. Long and Morrison then do a little tribute to Michael Jackson, singing some songs and dancing.

(6) Main event: Unified tag champions Chris Jericho & Edge beat World Hvt. champion C.M. Punk & Jeff hardy. Match was going good for Hardy and Punk. They looked like a team until Punk went for the tag, but Hardy mocked Punk by not making the tag and falling to the ground to claim his eye was injured. With Hardy on the floor, Edge and Jericho took advantage with Edge making a blind tag to spear Punk for the win. The show ends with Punk on his knees looking at Hardy walk away back to the locker room.

Dark match: IC champion Rey Mysterio & Jeff Hardy beat Unified tag champions Edge & Chris Jericho. After the show ended, there was a steel cage tag team match. It was a quick match with Mysterio and Hardy getting the pin with the 619 and Swanton bomb to end the night. Overall, a good show.
